The Governor of Ondo State, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has restated his administration’s unwavering commitment to the successful establishment of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Teaching Hospital.
Speaking on Sunday while receiving members of the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Health Institutions at the Government House in Alagbaka, Akure, the Governor emphasized the state’s readiness to support the federal health project.
Governor Aiyedatiwa said, “The feedback from this oversight function will not only benefit the federal and state governments but also health professionals and the people of Ondo State.”
He disclosed that the state government has already allocated one of its specialist hospitals to serve as a temporary facility for the teaching hospital’s take-off. Furthermore, land has been provided for the development of the hospital’s permanent site.
“My administration is ready to offer all necessary support to ensure the swift and successful establishment of the institution,” Aiyedatiwa affirmed.
He commended the committee’s oversight visit, noting that it would help identify gaps and strengthen collaboration between federal and state governments in enhancing healthcare delivery.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the House Committee, Hon. Patrick Umoh, said the visit formed part of the committee’s national oversight function to inspect and assess federal health institutions.
He called on the state government to sustain its support, stating, “We are counting on your cooperation and support to see that this critical project comes to life. Your input will be vital in driving the federal government’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery across the nation.”
Hon. Umoh highlighted that the FUTA Teaching Hospital project aligns with the broader objective of stabilising Nigeria’s healthcare system under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government.
“We appeal to you to continue providing an enabling environment and necessary support to ensure the swift take-off of the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Akure,” he added.
The visit, according to both parties, marks a significant step toward bridging gaps in tertiary healthcare infrastructure in Ondo State and across Nigeria.
