Bad Governance: APC Chieftain Eze Chukwuemeka Eze urges Nigerians not to despair, backs ADC as ‘rescue mission’
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has called on Nigerians not to lose hope despite ongoing economic challenges, while backing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a potential “rescue mission” for the country.
Eid Message and Political Criticism
In a statement marking the end of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, Eze congratulated Muslims and extended goodwill to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
“I wish to extend my warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations to the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar GCON, and all the Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.”
However, his message also included sharp criticism of the administration of President Bola Tinubu, blaming government policies for worsening economic hardship.
“I want to use this period of Eid Al-Fitr celebration to urge Nigerians not to despair due to the present economic hardship we have been made to pass through by the Bola Tinubu APC-led government.”
‘ADC on Rescue Mission’
Eze said the opposition ADC was positioning itself as an alternative capable of addressing Nigeria’s economic and governance challenges.
“On this auspicious occasion… I therefore appeal to Nigerians not to lose hope as the ADC is on a mission to rescue and salvage the country from the grip of despotic, nepotistic and evil-minded administration.”
He added that an ADC-led government would “turn around the fortunes of this country and reverse the current hardship”.
Why It Matters
Nigeria has faced rising inflation, currency volatility, and cost-of-living pressures since the removal of fuel subsidies and foreign exchange reforms under the current administration.
Political criticism from within or around the ruling party reflects growing tensions ahead of future elections and highlights shifting alliances within Nigeria’s political landscape.
Calls for Unity During Festive Season
Despite the political tone, Eze emphasised unity and shared values during the Eid celebrations.
“This special day marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan—a period of reflection, sacrifice, compassion, and devotion to Almighty Allah.”
“May this Eid bring renewed hope, healing, and prosperity to every home.”
He also noted the symbolic overlap between Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season, describing both as periods of fasting and reflection.
Public and Expert Perspectives
Political analysts say such statements reflect broader dissatisfaction among segments of the public, though opinions remain divided.
Some Nigerians have expressed concern over rising living costs, while others argue that recent reforms could yield long-term economic stability.
Economists often note that structural reforms can take time to show impact, particularly in large economies like Nigeria.
What’s Next
With political narratives already shifting, observers expect increased rhetoric from both ruling and opposition figures as the country approaches future electoral cycles.
The government has continued to defend its policies, saying reforms are necessary to stabilise the economy.

Aiyedatiwa praises Arogbofa at 87, celebrates intellectual legacy and democratic ideals
Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has paid tribute to elder statesman Basorun Seinde Arogbofa, describing him as a “towering figure” whose intellectual and moral influence has shaped public life in Nigeria.
He spoke on Saturday at the Federal University of Technology Akure during an event marking Arogbofa’s 87th birthday, which included a book presentation and fellowship investiture by the Association of Nigerian Authors.
Aiyedatiwa said the occasion was not just about age, but about celebrating a legacy of ideas and service.
“At this age, we are not merely celebrating the passage of time, but honouring a life that has become an institution in itself,” he said.
He described Arogbofa, a prominent voice in the Afenifere movement, as “a pillar and a compass” in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
Why it matters
The recognition highlights the role of elder statesmen in shaping political thought and governance in Nigeria, particularly within the Yoruba socio-political space.
Arogbofa’s work, including his book Understanding Afenifere: A Journey Through the Yoruba Leadership Organisation, is seen as documenting the evolution of progressive politics, social justice, and grassroots development.
Aiyedatiwa said such contributions help preserve institutional memory and guide future leadership.
“For decades, he has demonstrated that public life can be principled, that activism can be refined by intellect and that leadership can be firm without bitterness.”
Arogbofa’s response
In his remarks, Mr Arogbofa expressed gratitude for the recognition and reflected on his lifelong commitment to literature and leadership.
“It is not every writer who can receive this,” he said, referring to his fellowship award.
He also acknowledged the responsibility that comes with such honours.
“I received it with some trepidation. My prayer is to meet the expectations that come with it.”
He urged younger generations to prioritise education and intellectual growth.
“Read, learn, be eager.”
Literary and intellectual recognition
The fellowship investiture into the ANA Hall of Fame recognises Arogbofa’s contributions to literature and public discourse.
Reviewing his book, Prof. Femi Mimiko described it as “thought-provoking” and relevant to contemporary societal challenges.
The event also drew dignitaries including former Defence Minister Kayode Adetokunbo and traditional rulers such as the Deji of Akure.
Governance and moral leadership
Aiyedatiwa said elders like Arogbofa form part of the “moral infrastructure” of society, helping to keep governments accountable.
“Systems thrive when there are voices of conscience. Governments remain grounded when there are elders whose counsel is guided by principle and enriched by history.”
He added that such guidance has influenced his own decision-making in office.
What’s next
The governor called for continued documentation of political and cultural history, stressing the need to preserve ideas that shape governance and identity.
Observers say events like this could inspire renewed interest in intellectual discourse and mentorship among younger Nigerians.

Aiyedatiwa urges APC to target one million votes for Tinubu in Ondo ahead of 2027 election
The governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intensify grassroots mobilisation, declaring that the party must secure one million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
He made the appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, where party leaders gathered to prepare for upcoming congresses and strategise ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Aiyedatiwa said the push for votes must begin at the ward level, stressing that elections are decided at polling units rather than online platforms.
“Go to the ward and polling units. That is where votes are. Elections are not won on social media or through hype,” he said.
Why it matters
The governor’s target signals early political mobilisation within the ruling party, nearly two years before the next general elections.
Ondo State is considered a strategic state in Nigeria’s South-West political landscape, and a strong showing for the APC could reinforce support for President Tinubu in the region.
The call also reflects growing emphasis on grassroots politics, voter registration, and internal party unity as key factors in electoral success.
Congress preparations and party unity
Aiyedatiwa told party members that preparations were underway for the APC’s zonal congress scheduled for March 25 and the national convention expected later in the month.
He noted that the party could adopt either direct primaries or consensus arrangements, adding that leaders had already worked on a “unity list” in consultation with national stakeholders.
The governor urged members to align with decisions taken by party leadership and maintain cohesion.
“This is your government. You voted and mobilised others to vote. You should not abandon it. Stand by it and support it,” he said.
Focus on grassroots mobilisation
The governor emphasised the importance of expanding party membership and capturing more eligible voters.
He urged members to prioritise voter engagement at the ward level, warning against over-reliance on media campaigns.
He also highlighted recent amendments to Nigeria’s Electoral Act, which he said had strengthened internal party processes and reduced external interference in primaries.
Party leadership reacts
Ondo APC Chairman, Babatunde Kolawole, described the responsibility of strengthening the party as a collective effort.
He reassured members that the leadership would remain inclusive and aligned with national directives.
Kolawole also stressed that unity would be critical to achieving electoral success in 2027.
What’s next
The APC’s upcoming zonal congress and national convention are expected to shape party structures and leadership ahead of the next election cycle.
Political observers say how the party manages internal consensus and mobilisation efforts could influence its performance in Ondo State and beyond.

The Anambra State Command, led by Commandant Maku Olatunde, deployed personnel across the state to maintain order.
The corps also participated in a ceremonial parade at the venue.
“The NSCDC deployed personnel to strengthen security and ensure a smooth and peaceful inauguration.”
Why this matters
Soludo’s second term comes at a time when Anambra State faces key challenges, including economic development, infrastructure, and security.
His administration is expected to build on earlier reforms while addressing public expectations for improved governance and stability.
Political analysts say the presence of national leaders highlights the significance of Anambra in Nigeria’s broader political landscape.
