Reassures Excellent Service Delivery

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has lauded the recent commendations for personnel of the Nigeria Police Force in international peacekeeping efforts.

The United Nations, through its Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), recognized 140 officers and men of the Nigeria Police Contingent for their professionalism and outstanding performance in fostering peace and stability in Northern Mali. Similarly, the African Union presented Awards of Excellence and Professionalism to the Nigeria Formed Police Unit, comprising 160 officers and men deployed in Somalia, acknowledging their gallantry, professionalism, and dedication in countering Al-Shabaab terrorist elements.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the Force’s Spokesperson ACP Muyiwa Adejobi on Saturday.

According to Adejobi, the accolades extend beyond individual police officers deployed to UN missions in South Sudan, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, and Somalia, among others. The Nigeria Police Force has consistently received awards commending the professionalism, dedication to duty, and exceptional performance of its officers, earning them a reputation as among the best in the field. Furthermore, Nigeria Police officers hold key positions at the Police Division of UN Headquarters and African Union Headquarters, where they continue to diligently execute their duties, garnering respect and admiration.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has expressed confidence in the integrity, professionalism, and outstanding performance of NPF officers. Consequently, ECOWAS has requested the deployment of Nigeria Police officers and men to its missions in Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone. It is noteworthy that upon arrival in peacekeeping missions, NPF officers undergo competence-based interviews and selection processes aligned with international standards and best practices. Their consistent placement in strategic positions is proof of their competence and commitment to the missions’ success.

The Inspector General of Police expresses gratitude for these prestigious recognitions, which serve as a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and outstanding performance of Nigeria Police Officers in promoting global peace and security. The IGP further reassures that the police will consistently adopt modern standard operating procedures to accord quality service delivery, in all spheres, to Nigerians across the country.

Ogun APC Youth Group condemns PDP for hailing Speaker’s alleged removal

A political group known as the All Progressives Congress Youth Alliance for Justice (APC-YAJ) in Ogun state has condemned the Ogun state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for hailing the alleged removal of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kunle Oluomo.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Saturday by its Coordinator, Suraj Fadairo, the group said, “The comments of the PDP shows that it has more than a hand in the orchestrated plot to change the leadership of the Assembly. Both the timing and the manner of alleged leadership change which happened a few days after the Supreme Court affirmed the re-election of His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun (CON) goes to show that it was pre-planned.

“When the purported leadership change at the House of Assembly is viewed against the backdrop that the PDP and its defeated candidate were boasting that they would soon take over the reins of government in the state and had in fact made appointments and constituted an imaginary state executive council, then the full picture would be clearer to the discerning.

“The whole scenario of perjury and forgery has the trappings of the PDP. They are known for their crooked ways of inducement through vote-buying and money laundering.

“What is discomfiting and still a mystery is how some members of our party allowed themselves to be co-opted into the divisive and destructive politics of the PDP and its mindless minders.

“We hold that even if there were genuine grievances against the Rt. Hon. Oluomo-led leadership of the Assembly, there are channels of communication and ventilation of such within the party and government that could have been explored. But, what did we see? A few misguided members of our party in the House joining hands with the minority PDP to attempt a leadership change and thereby disrupt the cordial relationship peace being enjoyed between the executive and legislative arms of government in the state.”

The group said it noted the role played by the Minority Leader of the House of Assembly in the whole saga, adding that the comments by the PDP was in furtherance of his role and “the invidious agenda of his party”.

“We take particular notice of the conspicuous role of the Minority Leader in the whole saga and now the comments by his party, the PDP,” the statement read in part.

The APC-YAJ urged the leaders of the APC and youths to stand by the party and government.

“It is in the light of all these that we wish to urge the leadership of our party in the state and faithful party men, women and youths to rise up and stand by our party and government so that the defeated opposition (PDP) would not get through the backdoor what it could not get at the polls and the courts,” the group added.
