Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has called on residents of the state to reflect on the virtues of love, kindness, and generosity during the Christmas season while reaffirming their support for his administration’s vision for development.
Speaking at the 2024 State’s Service of Carols and Nine Lessons held at the International Centre for Culture and Events (The Dome), Akure, Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted the true meaning of Christmas as a time for reflection and a renewal of values.
“This season is a testament to divine goodwill towards mankind, unfolding the great plan of redemption, worship, and praise to the Almighty God for His benevolence,” he said.
The Governor expressed gratitude for the peace and stability in the state over the past year, particularly during the November 16 governorship election, which he described as a testament to divine grace.
“We serve a living God that truly loves us, the Almighty who overlooks our imperfections to rescue us from the vicissitudes of life. Of remarkable testament to His endless grace is the peace and calmness we witnessed across the State, where we coasted to an unprecedented victory. It is a collective victory which we have since dedicated to God and the good people of Ondo State,” he noted.
Highlighting Milestones and New Development Agenda
Governor Aiyedatiwa also reflected on the achievements of his administration since assuming office in December 2023. Among these are the implementation of a new minimum wage of ₦73,000, ongoing infrastructure projects, and improvements in education, security, and agriculture.

During the event, he unveiled a new development framework, ‘OUR EASE,’ which aims to build on the accomplishments of the outgoing Redeemed Agenda. According to the Governor, ‘OUR EASE’ focuses on key areas such as order and security, technological advancement, efficient healthcare, sustainable agriculture, and education.
“This agenda is designed to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of our people while laying a solid foundation for future development,” he explained.
A Call for Reflection During Christmas
Encouraging modesty and reflection during the Yuletide, Governor Aiyedatiwa reminded residents of the spiritual significance of Christmas.
“Christmas is not just a day; it is a frame of mind. A good conscience is a continual Christmas. Our celebration must embody the virtues and principles of Christ, for Jesus Christ is the reason for this season,” he said.
He also urged patience as the country undergoes economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing the changes as necessary for collective growth.
The Governor’s reflections were enriched by the Ninth Lesson, Genesis 1:26-31, which he read, emphasizing humanity’s divine authority and purpose.

In his sermon, Bishop Joshua Kolawole Opayinka, Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in Ondo State, encouraged attendees to embrace the joy, peace, and hope of Christ’s birth.
