The Operation Whirlwind Team of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced the seizure of 21,810 liters of smuggled Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) worth millions of naira in the Zone ‘A’ axis.
This is in addition to previous interceptions totaling 26,950 liters worth ₦19 million.
Comptroller HK Ejibunu, National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind Team, disclosed this during a press briefing, stating that the team has made significant impact in curbing smuggling since its inception.
The seized PMS was intercepted in various operations, including 43 kegs of 30 liters each, a tanker with 15,200 liters, and several vehicles with specially built bunkers.
Ejibunu warned those engaged in smuggling to desist or face the law, emphasizing the devastating effects of smuggling on the economy and national security.
The team’s efforts aim to prevent diversion of petroleum products to neighboring countries and reduce insecurity fueled by smuggled PMS.
