Former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, has accused the acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iliya Damagum, Samuel Anyanwu, and Umar Bature of destroying the party.
Melaye, who made the accusation on Saturday, said the three chieftains have irredeemably destroyed the PDP.
“End of the road for PDP as Damagum, Bature and Anyanwu irredeemably destroyed the party. We will talk about the commercialisation and privatisation of PDP. PDP is now once upon a time,” Melaye posted on X.
The accusation comes amid indications that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) might sanction Damagum and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu for an alleged letter to the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, which was seen as an anti-party activity.
However, Damagum had on Thursday warned that nobody can intimidate him into resigning from his position.
“Let me send a message to everyone talking about Damagum this, Damagum that—I cannot be intimidated. The more you mention me, the more popular I become,” Damagum said at the inauguration of the National Reconciliation and Disciplinary Committees.
Damagum also berated those spreading misinformation about NWC operations, saying that those calling for his resignation are only enhancing his popularity.
The development has sparked a fresh crisis within the PDP, with some party leaders and members calling for action against Damagum and Anyanwu.
