El-Rufai has confirmed Buhari unaware of Nigeria’s situation – Afenifere
The Afenifere socio-political organization has reacted to the threat by terrorists to kidnap President Muhammadu Buhari.
Afenifere said it does not take the threat by kidnappers and bandits lightly.
Jare Ajayi, the spokesman of Afenifere, said the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has affirmed that Buhari was unaware of the reality in the country.
He said the infiltration of the nation’s landscape by bandits and terrorists was an indication of the government’s failure.
A statement by Ajayi reads partly: “It would be recalled that the Minister of Information, Lai Muhammed, described the threat by terrorists to kidnap President Buhari and Governor Rufai as laughable, while his counterpart in the Ministry of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, said that the Nigerian economy is doing very well, far better than under the previous administrations.
“What further drove home the fact that President Buhari is not always aware of the reality of the country’s situation was the disclosure by Governor El Rufai of Kaduna State that President Muhammadu Buhari was not aware that terrorists threatened to kidnap both the President and himself until he (Rufai and Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State) told him.
“In any case, we in Afenifere do not take the threats by the kidnappers, bandits and terrorists lightly. What with another deadly attack that happened in Owo, Ondo State, on Wednesday, July 27th, barely seven weeks after the gruesome attack on St Francis Catholic Church in the same town. We in Afenifere, in strong terms, condemn this new attack as we did the previous time. It is seen as a provocation that can no longer be accepted.
“The impression had always been that the Chief Executive Officers at the national and State levels get daily briefings on the security situations in their respective areas.
“Had it not come from Governor El-Rufai, it would have been very difficult to believe that President Buhari was not aware that he was under the radar of would-be kidnappers.
“Yet those around the President were very much aware of this fact. Why didn’t they bring it to his attention? Where is the position, indeed the role, of the National Security Adviser in all these?
“We are asking these questions because, among others, funding cannot be an excuse.”

The palace of the traditional ruler at Ndia Iche Arondizuogu community in the Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, Eze Kanu Ikenolu, was set ablaze by unknown gunmen.
Speaking about the incident, sources told the Whistler that the gunmen stormed the palace of the traditional ruler with explosives which they threw into the compound which resulted in a fire outbreak that torched the building, properties and cars in the compound.
A community source said that properties worth millions were destroyed and blamed the police for not responding to the distress calls from the community.
The villager said, “The palace of HRH Eze Ikenolu, the Eze of Ndia iche Arondizuogu has been invaded by the Unknown Gunmen and the people are in the bushes now.
“Until now no response from the police about the palace of HRH Eze Kanu in Ndianiche Arondizuogu, where cars, houses, and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed. Or is Arondizuogu no longer part of Imo State?”
The spokesperson of Imo State Police, Henry Okoye said that “frantic investigating efforts are on top gear to arrest the arsonists and bring them to justice”
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed a Special Investigator to probe the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and key Government Business Entities (GBEs).
This is coming after the suspended Governor of the apex bank, Godwin Emefiele is been detained at the office of the Department of State Services.
In a letter obtained by journalists, President Tinubu named the Chief Executive Officer, Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), Jim Osayande Obazee, as the special investigator of the CBN bank.
Tinubu also directed Obazee to report directly to his office.
“By the fundamental objective outlined in Section 15(5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), this administration is today, continuing the fight against corruption by appointing you as a Special Investigator, to investigate the CBN and Related Entities. This appointment shall be with immediate effect and you are to report directly to my office.
“The full terms of your engagement as Special Investigator shall be communicated to you in due course but, require that you immediately take steps to ensure the strengthening and probity of key Government Business Entities (GBEs), further block leakages in CBN and related GBEs and provide a comprehensive report on public wealth currently in the hands of corrupt individuals and establishments (whether private or public).
“You are to investigate the CBN and related entities using a suitably experienced, competent and capable team and work with relevant security and anti-corruption agencies to deliver on this assignment. I shall expect a weekly briefing on the progress being made,” Daily Trust quoted President’s letter saying.
