Eze Urges Police Probe into Nwanosike’s Remarks About Amaechi Ahead of 2027

Published

on

An African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has asked President Bola Tinubu and Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu to investigate remarks by former Ikwerre Local Government chairman Samuel Nwanosike about former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Chief Eze said the remarks, which reportedly warned that the political contest ahead of the 2027 elections would be taken to Amaechi’s “bedroom”, could heighten tensions in Rivers State.

Why the dispute matters

The exchange comes as political competition intensifies ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

Amaechi, a former governor and transport minister, joined the ADC earlier this year. The party has since selected him as the running mate to its presidential candidate, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, giving him a prominent role in the opposition’s campaign.

Nwanosike, a former chairman of Ikwerre LGA and ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has previously criticised Mr Amaechi’s political influence.

In August 2025, Nwanosike said  Amaechi and former Rivers governor Celestine Omehia would not win their polling units in the 2027 elections.

The latest dispute therefore reflects a longer-running political rivalry in Rivers State rather than an isolated disagreement.

Eze asks police to examine the remarks

Chief Eze, a former national publicity secretary of the now-defunct New People’s Democratic Party, said politicians should contest elections through policies and records rather than intimidation.

“Politics is a contest of ideas, competence, records and the confidence of the people; it should never be reduced to threats, intimidation or references to a man’s bedroom,” he said.

He also questioned why Nwanosike continued to focus on Amaechi if he believed the former governor no longer had significant political influence.

“If Nwanosike believes Amaechi has no political relevance, why the obsession with him? Why the threats? Why the repeated references to his person? The truth is that those who genuinely believe a political structure is dead do not spend their time warning it; they simply defeat it at the polls,” Chief Eze said.

Chief Eze urged the police to determine whether Nwanosike’s words amounted to a genuine threat or were simply political rhetoric.

“As much as it is not my intention to join issues with this low character of a fellow but let me reiterate that President Tinubu and IGP Olatunji Rilwan should investigate the evil outburst that represents what Nyesom Wike taught them and invite him to explain how he intends to carry out his threat against a National figure like Rt. Hon. Barr Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi,” he said.

The statement contains several insults directed at Nwanosike and Wike. Those descriptions are Chief Eze’s opinions and have not been independently established as facts.

A history of political rivalry

Relations between Amaechi and Wike have been politically hostile for more than a decade.

Wike succeeded  Amaechi as Rivers governor in 2015 after serving in his administration as chief of staff. Their rivalry later became a major feature of Rivers politics.

The conflict has at various times involved allegations over government property, political control and electoral influence. In 2015, Wike accused the outgoing administration of vandalising the Rivers State Government House, while  Amaechi denied the allegations and accused Wike of using them to damage his reputation.

The political contest has also had wider security implications.

In March 2025, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State amid a political crisis and concerns over pipeline vandalism. He suspended the governor, deputy governor and state lawmakers and appointed a caretaker administrator.

The episode demonstrated how political disputes in the oil-producing state can quickly acquire wider security and economic consequences.

What is different ahead of 2027?

Amaechi’s current position gives the dispute a national dimension.

The ADC formally announced him as Atiku’s running mate in June 2026 after he emerged as runner-up in the party’s presidential primary.

That means political attacks involving Amaechi in Rivers State could resonate beyond the state, particularly if the opposition coalition uses Rivers as an important base during the 2027 campaign.

Nwanosike’s earlier political messaging has focused on electoral strength rather than evidence of wrongdoing. In 2025, for example, he challenged Amaechi and Omehia to demonstrate their political influence at their polling units.

Chief Eze, however, wants the debate to focus on what politicians have delivered to Rivers residents.

“If you have a case against Amaechi, bring it to the people. If you believe he failed Ikwerre, provide the evidence. If you believe your political camp has performed better, present the records. But Rivers State should not be dragged into a politics of threats, personal attacks and political vendettas,” he said.

What happens next?

There is no indication in Chief Eze’s statement that the police or the presidency has opened an investigation into Nwanosike’s remarks.

Any investigation would need to establish the exact words used, the context in which they were made and whether they meet the legal threshold for a criminal threat.

The Nigeria Police Force is currently headed by IGP Disu, who became the country’s 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police in February 2026.

For Rivers residents, the immediate issue is whether political rhetoric remains within the boundaries of democratic competition or develops into threats, intimidation or violence.

The 2027 election campaign is still developing, but the latest exchange shows why political actors and security agencies will face pressure to prevent inflammatory language from escalating into real-world violence.

Eze Challenges Wihioka to Produce Documents Disputing Amaechi’s Ikwerre Identity

Published

on

Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has challenged former federal lawmaker Chidi Wihioka to publicly release documents he says prove that former Rivers State governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, is not an Ikwerre man.

Eze described Wihioka’s claim as political revisionism and an attempt to use questions of identity and ancestry in the political contest ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wihioka was reported to have said he possessed documents concerning the “balkanisation of Ikwerre” which, he claimed, would establish that Amaechi is not an Ikwerre son.

He has also reportedly said Amaechi would be “caged” ahead of the 2027 elections.

Reacting in a statement made available to journalists in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Eze called on Wihioka to publish the documents and allow historians, traditional institutions and members of the public to examine their claims.

“If Elder Chidi Wihioka genuinely possesses documents capable of disproving Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s Ikwerre ancestry, let him publish them and subject them to independent historical scrutiny.”

Eze questions timing of identity claim

Eze said claims about Amaechi’s ancestry should not be determined by current political disagreements.

He argued that historical identity should be established through credible evidence rather than political affiliations or public statements.

“Identity should not become a political weapon that one deploys only when it is convenient. You cannot recognise a man as a son, associate with him politically and benefit from the political environment around him, only to begin questioning his ancestry when political interests change.”

The ADC chieftain urged Wihioka to identify the authors, dates and historical sources behind the documents he says he possesses.

He said this would allow the claims to be subjected to proper scrutiny rather than becoming part of political exchanges in Rivers State.

‘Amaechi cannot be caged’, Eze says

Eze also rejected Wihioka’s reported threat that Amaechi could be “caged” ahead of the 2027 elections.

He argued that political participation in Rivers State should be determined by democratic processes and the choices of voters rather than threats or political control.

“Amaechi cannot be caged. The people cannot be caged. Democracy cannot be caged.”

Eze further questioned who had the authority to determine how members of the Ikwerre community would vote in the next general election.

“Let it be clearly understood: Ikwerre people own their votes. Not Wike. Not Wihioka. Not Amaechi. Not any political godfather.”

His comments come against the backdrop of continuing political rivalry in Rivers State, where the political influence of former governor Nyesom Wike and Amaechi remains a major issue in discussions about the state’s 2027 political landscape.

Eze recalls Amaechi-Wihioka political relationship

Eze also questioned Wihioka’s current position by referring to his previous political relationship with Amaechi and the wider political establishment in Rivers State.

He challenged Wihioka to clarify allegations about benefits he allegedly received during Amaechi’s period of political influence, including claims relating to accommodation, a vehicle and contracts.

He said Wihioka should publicly respond to the allegations if they were untrue.

“If these allegations are false, let Chidi Wihioka publicly deny them with facts. And if they are true, then the people are entitled to ask a simple question: what has changed?”

‘Ikwerre identity is not a political appointment’

Eze maintained that ethnic and ancestral identity should not be determined by political loyalty.

“Being Ikwerre is not a political appointment. It is not conferred by Wike, Wihioka or any political faction.”

He again called on Wihioka to produce the historical evidence behind his claim about Amaechi’s ancestry.

Eze said traditional institutions, historians and the public should be allowed to examine any documents before conclusions are drawn.

2027 election will decide, Eze says

Eze said the eventual outcome of the 2027 elections would depend on voters rather than political godfathers.

He argued that politicians could make claims about controlling particular voting blocs, but individual voters would ultimately determine their choices at the polling unit.

“When the people enter the polling booths, none of these politicians will be there to control the finger of the voter.”

Eze described the 2027 election as a potential test of the influence of political godfatherism and attempts to control voting patterns in Rivers State.

He urged Wihioka to release the documents he referred to and allow the evidence to be independently assessed.

“If Chidi Wihioka has the document, let him publish it. We are waiting.”

Eze concluded that the people of Rivers State would have the final say in the state’s political future.

Eze Hails Amaechi’s Mother’s Burial, Says ADC 2027 Project Is on Course

Published

on

Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has praised former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi for the burial of his late mother, Dame Mary Oduah Amaechi, while expressing confidence in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.

Eze, a former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP), said the attendance of political leaders and other prominent Nigerians at the burial demonstrated what he described as Amaechi’s continued national relevance.

Amaechi is the ADC’s vice-presidential candidate, according to Eze’s statement issued on Thursday, September 10.

Eze praises burial arrangements

In a statement made available to the media, Eze thanked Amaechi for giving his late mother what he described as a “befitting burial”.

He also pointed to the presence of political figures and other dignitaries at the ceremony as evidence of the former governor’s standing within Nigerian politics.

“The calibre of personalities who came to identify with you and your family has once again demonstrated that you remain an acceptable and respected national leader.”

Eze also commended Dame Judith Amaechi for what he described as the strong representation of women leaders at the burial.

He said their participation added significance to the ceremony.

ADC leaders praised

The ADC chieftain also acknowledged the participation of Rivers State political figures, including the party’s state chairman, Dr Chukwudi Dimkpa.

He praised other ADC leaders, supporters, friends and associates whom he said contributed to the success of the burial activities.

Eze specifically mentioned Gabriel Pidomson, whom he described as the “incoming Governor of Rivers State”, and Chief David Amapakaye Okumgba, whom he identified as the “incoming Deputy Governor”.

The claims about the political status and future offices of these individuals were made by Eze in his statement and were not independently established in the release.

Eze says 2027 project is on course

The statement also shifted from the burial to the ADC’s political preparations ahead of the 2027 elections.

Eze said the calibre of people involved in the Rivers State chapter of the party, alongside what he described as the commitment of its supporters, gave him confidence in its prospects.

“With the calibre of leaders assembled to run the affairs of our great party in Rivers State, coupled with the commitment, unity and dedication demonstrated by our present crop of leaders and supporters, I am confident that our 2027 mission is firmly on course by the grace of God.”

Eze attacks Wike, urges Amaechi to stay focused

Eze also commented on the political activities of former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike, urging Amaechi not to be distracted by him.

Wike, who succeeded Amaechi as Rivers State governor in 2015, remains a major figure in the state’s political landscape.

Eze said:

“My advice to our Leader is simple: please do your best to ignore Nyesom Wike and allow us to handle him at our level.”

He further claimed that Wike was becoming politically isolated.

“His latest conduct has only reinforced the impression that he is increasingly becoming politically isolated and behaving like a drowning man who is desperately clutching at every available straw.”

What the statement means for the ADC

The remarks underline the ADC’s effort to position itself as a significant political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, the party’s actual electoral prospects will depend on factors including its organisation at state and grassroots levels, candidate selection, alliances, voter support and its ability to translate political activity into votes.

Eze said he remained optimistic about the party’s growing structure in Rivers State and its ability to emerge as a formidable force ahead of the elections.
