Less than a year after the tragic death of Access Holdings’ former Group Managing Director, Herbert Wigwe, his family is embroiled in a contentious legal battle over his vast estate.

Wigwe, who passed away alongside his wife, Doreen, and son, Chizi, in a helicopter crash on February 9, 2024, left behind a multi-billion naira property.

Herbert’s parents, led by Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, have filed a caveat at the Probate Registry, challenging the distribution of his estate as outlined in his will.

The will, lodged at the Ikeja Probate Court, stipulates that his wealth be distributed solely among his children.

However, Pastor Shyngle Wigwe is seeking 20% of the estate for himself and other family members.

Prominent lawyer Jesutega Onokpasa has advised the Wigwe family to resolve their differences amicably, stating:

“I just heard that the parents of our brother, the late Herbert Wigwe, have gone to court to contest his will… Nothing is more disgusting than people fighting over the property of a deceased person – property they did not earn.”

Onokpasa emphasized the importance of embracing heritage and respecting elders, urging Herbert’s children to reconcile with their grandparents.

The family dispute has sparked public interest, revealing deeper issues concealed by Herbert’s success in the banking industry.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the impact on Dr. Herbert Wigwe’s legacy and his surviving children remains uncertain.
