In a significant step toward addressing the shortage of teachers in Ondo State public schools, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has approved the employment of 1,010 new secondary school teachers.
This approval follows the completion of the recruitment process by the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), which screened thousands of applicants last year.
The list of successful candidates will be published online today and will also be displayed at TESCOM headquarters and zonal offices across the state starting tomorrow (Tuesday).
Successful candidates are expected to commence their documentation process immediately.
Governor Aiyedatiwa had initially approved the recruitment of 1,000 secondary school teachers and 1,000 primary school teachers last year, leading to the commencement of the recruitment exercise by TESCOM and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
While the final list for secondary school teachers received approval last Friday, the primary school candidates’ list is still undergoing final review.
Expressing his concern about the shortage of teachers in public schools, particularly in rural areas, Governor Aiyedatiwa directed that the recruitment process be tailored to address the specific needs of understaffed schools across the state.
The recruitment of new teachers aligns with the administration’s broader efforts to revamp the education sector in Ondo State.
In addition to hiring teachers, Governor Aiyedatiwa recently approved a N633 million payment for the registration of students for the West African Examination Council’s (WAEC) Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination.
Furthermore, his administration has approved the upgrade and conversion of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into a University of Agriculture and Agribusiness.
