HAVEK Leadership Academy Graduates Ethical Young leaders, Seeks Global Partnerships

Havek Leadership Academy has graduated its 2024 cohort of Leadership and Mentoring Fellows after a year-long programme designed to nurture ethical and innovative leaders.

The ceremony, held at the CMD Centre in Magodo, Lagos, focused on the theme “Achieving Transformational Leadership through Self and Community Development.”

Founded in 2018 under NASFAT, HAVEK has trained more than 8,000 young leaders, aiming to blend academic excellence with integrity, innovation, and spirituality.

Board Chairman of HAVEK and Chair of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group, Mr Niyi Yusuf, said the academy’s graduates had already begun making an impact.

“Today is a day of pride, proof that HAVEK has stayed true to its promise of raising leaders of competence, fear of Allah, and Taqwa,” Yusuf said.

He added that while over 1,200 young people enrolled last year, around 70% completed the rigorous process, with 20% securing scholarships, jobs, or postgraduate opportunities abroad.

Calls for partnerships

Yusuf urged public and private stakeholders to partner with HAVEK to open doors for its graduates.

“While there are brilliant young people everywhere, opportunities are however not readily available to many of them. Hence, we seek partnerships for our graduates. They are brilliant, skilled, principled, and God-fearing,” he said.

The academy’s General Manager, Alhaji AbdulWasiu Ayoola, echoed this call, stressing that HAVEK’s mission extends beyond ceremonies.

“One chapter closes, another begins. The baton is being passed, and the race continues. Carry it with honour, with excellence, and with service,” he told the graduating fellows.

Industry reactions

Guest speaker and Vice Chancellor of Fountain University, Professor Rahmota Karim, emphasised that leadership was forged through effort, not chance.

“Leadership does not happen by accident. It is never the product of luck. It is the outcome of deliberate, consistent investment in oneself,” she said.

She urged graduates to combine self-development with community service, warning against leadership that leaves people behind.

“When leaders rise but leave their communities behind, they build fragile towers that crumble with time. But when leaders rise and carry others with them, they build legacies that endure generations,” Karim said.

Other dignitaries, including NASFAT representatives and retired civil servants, praised the academy for producing leaders committed to ethical values.

The new fellows

Graduates included first-class degree holders, postgraduate scholars, teachers, engineers, and entrepreneurs.

Speaking on behalf of the class, Abduljelil described the journey as “challenging but transformative.”

“From classroom sessions to mentoring opportunities, every step of this journey reinforced a simple but powerful truth — learning is indeed a continuous process,” he said.

What’s next

HAVEK says it plans to expand its hybrid learning and mentorship programmes, providing continuous support for alumni and increasing inclusivity by welcoming both Muslim and Christian participants.

The academy also seeks strategic collaborations with businesses, government agencies, and global institutions to connect its graduates with real-world opportunities.

Goodmus Learning Centre has announced June 27, 2026, as the date for the next Global Competency Assessment (GCA) examination in Nigeria, a UK-based certification programme that promises access to international scholarships, employment opportunities and global mobility pathways for successful candidates.

The assessment, which recently made its debut in Lagos, is designed to measure practical skills and workplace competence across a range of sectors including business, technology, education, security and entrepreneurship.

According to the centre, candidates who achieve exceptional scores could qualify for overseas scholarships and gain recognition in dozens of countries where the certification is accepted.

These countries include destinations such as the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.

Badmus added that candidates who score above 60 per cent may also become eligible for partial scholarships and other international education and travel opportunities.

“The GCA is about measuring practical skills, applied knowledge and performance. It is not just another certificate; it is validation of global competence,” he said.

Monthly Assessments Planned

The education centre said it has completed its first round of assessments in Lagos and intends to hold examinations every month.

According to Badmus, the move is aimed at ensuring regular access to globally recognised competence certification for Nigerians seeking career development opportunities.

He explained that the assessment is designed to evaluate individuals strictly within their professional areas of expertise.

“The certification is structured to assess individuals strictly within their areas of expertise, ensuring that successful candidates are evaluated on demonstrable competence rather than academic credentials alone,” he said.

International Recognition and Employment Prospects

Goodmus said the inaugural examination was supervised by education experts from the United Kingdom, a development it believes strengthens the programme’s international credibility and alignment with global standards.

Badmus said successful candidates could gain access to employment opportunities across recognised jurisdictions while also benefiting from pathways connected to study and residence opportunities in countries including Germany, the Netherlands and Portugal.

The organisation argues that the certification framework follows competency-based assessment models increasingly used in international labour markets.

Education and workforce development experts have long argued that practical skills assessments can complement traditional qualifications by providing employers with additional evidence of a candidate’s abilities.
