IGP Egbetokun Marks 365 Days in Office, Outlines Achievements and Strategies in Combating Terrorism

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has marked his 365 days in office with a conference with senior police officers, reflecting on the achievements and challenges faced by the Nigeria Police Force over the past year.

 

Despite facing threats from terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and armed robbery, the police force has remained resilient and dedicated to its mandate.

The IGP commended officers for their hard work and dedication, highlighting positive results achieved through capacity building, service improvements, and strengthened relationships with sister services and the public.

Over the past year, the police force has achieved notable milestones, including the payment of ₦9.85 billion to families of deceased officers, the declaration of National Police Day, and the promotion of 33,867 officers based on merit and competence.

 

The force has also made significant arrests, rescuing 1,907 kidnapped victims and recovering 2,750 firearms and 1,540 vehicles nationwide.

The IGP outlined security plans to support the upcoming gubernatorial elections in Edo and Ondo States, ensuring smooth elections in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He expressed appreciation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support and reiterated the police force’s commitment to serving the nation with integrity and dedication.

The police force pledges to work collaboratively towards a safer, more secure Nigeria, building on its achievements over the past year.
