IGP Strengthens Crime Prevention Collaboration with Nigerian Correctional Services

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on February 14, 2025, hosted the Acting Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS), Sylvester Nwakuche Ndidi, along with senior NCS officers at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The discussion centered on strengthening cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the NCS to improve crime prevention and enhance the Nigerian Criminal Justice System.

The Acting CG highlighted the NCS’s ongoing rehabilitation and reformation efforts, aiming to transform correctional facilities into centers of rehabilitation rather than mere confinement.

He also introduced an updated criminal database initiative designed to provide a comprehensive record of offenders and their offenses, ensuring a more efficient correctional system.

In response, IGP Egbetokun reinforced the shared vision of both agencies and affirmed the Police Force’s commitment to close collaboration with the NCS to improve the effectiveness of the Criminal Justice System.

“The IGP reinforced the shared vision of both agencies to ensure the overall effectiveness of the Criminal Justice System, and pledged the commitment of the Force to working closely with the NCS towards achieving shared goals.”

Police Officers Urged to Uphold Integrity and Transparency

In a separate development, IGP Egbetokun also received senior officers of the ASP Course 22/2005, who marked 20 years in service.

The IGP commended their dedication and urged them to remain role models by upholding the rule of law, integrity, accountability, transparency, and justice.

“The IGP during the visit, congratulated the officers on their journey so far and encouraged the officers who serve as role models, to always show commitment to upholding the rule-of-law, integrity, accountability, transparency and justice, which forms the core values of policing.”

Police Reiterate Commitment to Justice and Reforms

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) reaffirmed its dedication to justice and professionalism, emphasizing that collaboration with the Nigerian Correctional Service and other agencies will drive meaningful reforms.

“The Nigeria Police Force reassures its obligation towards justice and expresses its optimism that high values, professionalism and collaborative efforts with the Nigerian Correctional Service and other relevant agencies will result to meaningful reforms and improved outcomes for the criminal justice system in Nigeria, and the country as a whole.”
