…..A Delicious Way to Find Love: 85% of Nigerian Singles Agree Cooking is a Green Flag.

Cooking has always played a central role in Nigerian culture, bringing people together over rich, flavorful meals.

A recent survey among Nigerians aged 18-35 highlights just how important this skill is in romantic relationships.

Cooking as a Green Flag in Relationships

According to the survey, 85% of Nigerian singles see cooking as a major “green flag” in a partner.

Even more compelling, 90% agree that someone willing to learn how to cook is just as attractive. For many, food is more than nourishment—it is a powerful expression of care and connection.

The survey also found that:

95% of respondents believe cooking shows a person’s ability to care for others.

90% of respondents value hygiene and cleanliness during and after cooking.

90% agree that partners who can cook Jollof rice and multiple soups—such as ogbono, egusi, efo riro, and edikaikong—are particularly attractive.

Half of the respondents admitted they have cooked at least once to impress a love interest, with 90% doing it multiple times.

However, inviting someone over for a home-cooked meal on a first date might be too soon for many Nigerians—only 20% are comfortable with the idea.

Instead, the third date seems to be the ideal time for this romantic gesture.

Knorr Sparks Romance with #UnlockYourGreenFlag Campaign

After all, food is the universal language of love, so it makes sense that something so simple is enough to stir up some passion. So, if you’re looking for love—or just a taste tester for your latest recipe—try leveling up your game by adding cooking to your dating profile.”
