LASHMA, WAPA PARTNER TO TRAIN, EMPOWER 200 EKOSHA VULNERABLE ON VOCATIONAL SKILLS

The Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), in its commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the EKO Social Health Alliance (EKOSHA), one of the Lagos State Social Protection programmes, has partnered with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) to train and empower 200 EKOSHA vulnerable, on various vocational skills.

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), Dr. Emmanuella Zamba revealed this during the graduation ceremony of the vulnerable on a short-term course organised by WAPA in conjunction with LASHMA, at Ojo Square, Somolu. She added that the empowerment of the vulnerable is the major sustainability component of EKOSHA.

Represented by the Head, Business Development, LASHMA, Mr. Olatunji Rotimi, Dr. Zamba said that the empowerment would enable the EKOSHA vulnerable to be independent as they would be able to pay for their health insurance premium upon the expiration of the one provided free for them by the Government.

Informing that they will also have money to support their families and also become employers of Labour, Zamba commended the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for approving the training and providing the necessary working tools for the trainees, stressing that the State Government is committed to ensuring that the vulnerable in the State have a good and healthy life.

Dr. Zamba also applauded Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for dedicating one percent of the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) as Equity Fund. The Equity Fund, she explained, is used for the Enrollment of the vulnerable on the ILERA EKO Health Insurance Plan.

She appreciated the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) for granting the requests of the Agency to train and empower the 200 EKOSHA vulnerable under the ILERA EKO Health Insurance Plan.

The Permanent Secretary said that the efforts of the Ministry to give voice to the helpless, hope to the hopeless and wealth to the vulnerable, are highly commendable.

Dr. Zamba averred that the training, which has gone a long way in providing different skills to the beneficiaries, would no doubt improve their livelihoods, break them free from the cycle of poverty and make them contribute positively to society for economic sustainability.

She disclosed that participants at the training who are not yet on ILERA EKO had been enrolled to ensure that they do their business in good health and have access to free healthcare for one year.

The Permanent Secretary also urged the recipients to adhere strictly to what they were taught so that in no time, they would achieve the aims and objectives of the training.

Dr. Zamba said that the Agency is committed to ensuring that every resident in the State including the vulnerable, indigents and People Living with Disabilities, irrespective of their socio-economic and cultural background is not left behind in the journey of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

She promised that the Agency will not relent in its efforts to ensure that all the vulnerable and indigents in the State, are enrolled on the Lagos State Health Scheme and have access to quality healthcare.

The Permanent Secretary appealed to eminent personalities, organisations, philanthropists and Donors, to support the Agency in providing free health insurance to the vulnerable in the State.

The recipients were trained and empowered with various vocational tools including tie & dye, catering and confectioneries, gele tying and make-up application, hairdressing and wig making, fabrics stoning and embellishments, production of soap and pomade/healthy insecticide and barbing techniques.

SYNERGY: NSCDC ANAMBRA STATE COMMANDANT ATTENDS PULLING OUT PARADE OF ANAMBRA COMMISSIONER OF POLICE

The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, Comdt. Maku Olatunde, today Saturday, 27th of April, 2024, attended the pulling out parade of the outgoing Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command, CP Aderemi Adeoye.

The parade, held at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, marked the official retirement of CP Adeoye from the state after thirty five years of meritorious service to the nation, brought together top government officials, captains of industries, service Commanders, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders.

The colourful ceremony, which was attended by the Governor of Anambra State, Prof . Chukwuma Soludo, CFR represented by his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, featured a parade procession, matching bands, inspection of guards and a farewell address by CP Adeoye.

Commandant Maku Olatunde, represented the NSCDC at the event, which showcased the synergy and collaboration between security agencies in Anambra State. He praised the outgoing Commissioner of Police for his dedication and service to the state, and wished him well in his future endeavors.

The pulling out parade is a dignified and respectful way to mark an officer’s retirement, in this case , the outgoing police commissioner CP Adeoye and Anambra State NSCDC is proud to have been a part of this occasion.

The highlight of the ceremony was a ceremonial departure of the CP in a motorcade.

Olukoyede Restructures EFCC, Appoints Chief Of Staff, 14 Zonal Directors

Ola Olukoyede, The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has appointed Michael Nzekwe as his Chief of Staff.

He also appointed Zonal Directors for each of the 14 Zonal Commands of the Commission as part of the restructuring of the EFCC.

According to Olukoyede, the ongoing restructuring is meant to reposition and strengthen the EFCC so that it can deliver optimally on its assigned mandate.

The anti-graft agency’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, announced the new appointments and changes in a statement on Saturday.

Nzekwe, who he described as a top-notch investigator, lawyer and former Commander of the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC, is a course one officer of the Commission.

He has served in various departments in the Commission, including Legal and Prosecution Department, the Department of Operations (now the Department of Investigations), the Department of Internal Affairs ( the Department of Ethics and Integrity), Servicom, and the Asset Forfeiture Department.

“A seasoned administrator, he has attended several trainings and courses home and abroad, including the Advance Defence Intelligence Officers Course organised by Defence Intel Agency, DIA. The appointment takes immediate effect and he has assumed duties,” the statement added.

In restructuring and repositioning the EFCC, Olukayode upgraded all the Zonal Commands of the commission to the status of departments, with each of them headed by a director.

“To this effect, 14 new Directors have been appointed to head each of the Zonal Commands,” Oyewale wrote in the statement.

“Additionally, to bolster and fortify the security architecture of the commission, the Security Unit of the EFCC has been upgraded to a Department with a seasoned officer appointed as Director, Security and Chief Security Officer.”

Also, a new department has also been created in the Executive Chairman’s office, and it is headed by former Makurdi Zonal Commander of the EFCC, Mr. Friday Ebelo, who also doubles as Director and Coordinator, Special Duties, at the corporate headquarters of the commission.

In addition to that, the former Department of Internal Affairs has been renamed Department of Ethics and Integrity and minor reshuffling effected in some departments at the headquarters.

Naira crash: EFCC arrests 34 currency speculators in Abuja

As part of efforts to improve the value of the naira, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators over alleged foreign exchange fraud.

They were arrested on Friday, April 26, in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sale of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the FCT, Abuja.

EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, listed the names of those arrested as: Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar and Amina Garba Rola.

Other suspects as: Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Mohammed Naseer, Zaharadeen Yau, Musa Umaru Adamu, Usman Machido and Abdulaziz Abubakar Abba.

Oyewale said the arrests came on the heels of the EFCC’s consistent efforts to sanitise and stabilise the foreign exchange market.

He said that the suspects would soon be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations.
