The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Female Elite Corps has rolled out a week-long traffic sensitization campaign to promote road safety and discipline among motorists ahead of the busy Yuletide season.

The initiative, themed “Drive Safe, Stay Safe,” will commence on Monday, December 2, 2024, targeting Lagos State’s major traffic hotspots. The campaign aims to reduce traffic infractions, enhance vehicular movement, and create awareness about the importance of compliance with traffic regulations during the festive period.

Speaking at the official launch, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring seamless transportation across the state during the holidays.

“The Yuletide season is synonymous with festivity, but it also heralds increased road usage. This campaign aims to reinforce motorists’ obligations to prioritize safety, thereby reducing accidents and traffic disruptions,” he stated.

The Female Elite Corps, an elite and highly trained unit within LASTMA, will spearhead the campaign through a series of activities, including roadshows, community engagements, and the distribution of educational materials. These activities will take place in critical areas such as Ikeja, Surulere, Epe, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, Agege, Lekki, Egbeda, Obalende, and Apapa.

To further bolster the campaign’s reach, LASTMA will provide real-time traffic updates and compliance tips via its digital platforms.

Highlighting key traffic regulations, the campaign will focus on educating motorists on the importance of adhering to traffic signals, avoiding driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, maintaining lane discipline, and avoiding one-way driving. Drivers will also be reminded to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on journeys.

Hon. Giwa encouraged full cooperation with LASTMA officials and advised road users to report traffic violations using the agency’s toll-free helpline, 080000527862.

He also urged Lagosians to adopt responsible driving habits during the festive season to create a safer and more harmonious environment for all road users.

The sensitization campaign underscores LASTMA’s dedication to fostering road safety and mitigating traffic-related challenges during the Yuletide season, ensuring a smoother holiday experience for residents and visitors alike.
