The UK Transport for London (TfL) has called out the Nigerian government for failing to pay £8.4 million in embassy congestion charges since 2003.

Nigeria ranks fourth among 48 foreign debtors who have refused to pay the charge, with the US embassy owing the most at nearly £15 million.

The UK government is pushing to take the matter to the International Court of Justice to ensure offending nations are penalized if they refuse to pay.

This comes after Nigerian FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s recent appeal for foreign embassies to pay their ground rent or risk license revocation.
