Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N1 billion to her alma mater, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The donation, aimed at restoring the university’s landscaping, was announced during the commissioning of a 2.7-kilometer road constructed by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi.

Senator Tinubu expressed concern over the erosion of the university’s natural beauty, blaming it on poor maintenance culture. She emphasized the importance of environmental cleanliness and urged the university authorities to maintain existing infrastructure while building upon them.

“I will donate N1 billion for the OAU horticultural landscape to be restored. The campus used to be beautiful while I was here. Ife is crying out for help. It used to be a beautiful campus and the beauty must be restored,” she said.

The Ooni of Ife praised Senator Tinubu’s contributions to education, women’s empowerment, and national unity.

“I recognize in you, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the same values that have guided our people for centuries: resilience, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others,” he said.
