In a significant stride toward workforce development, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Management has announced the promotion of 1,419 junior officers across various ranks. This landmark decision was finalized during the 10th Management meeting, presided over by the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, on November 29, 2024.
The promotions, which span both General Duty and Support Staff categories, reflect the NCS’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding exceptional performance. A breakdown of the promotion exercise reveals the following advancements:
346 General Duty and 384 Support Staff officers were promoted from Assistant Inspector of Customs (AIC) to Inspector of Customs (IC).
4 General Duty and 13 Support Staff officers advanced from Customs Assistant I (CAI) to Assistant Inspector of Customs (AIC).
372 General Duty and 59 Support Staff officers moved from Customs Assistant II (CAII) to Customs Assistant I (CAI).
188 General Duty and 54 Support Staff officers rose from Customs Assistant III (CAIII) to Customs Assistant II (CAII).
The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, highlighted the significance of the promotions, describing them as a cornerstone of his administration’s transformative leadership. “By prioritising career growth as a cornerstone of workforce motivation, his administration inspires a culture of excellence, empowering employees to achieve their full potential and driving the organisation toward unparalleled service delivery,” a statement from the NCS Management noted.
In his congratulatory message, the CGC urged the newly promoted officers to heighten their commitment to the Service’s core mandates, including revenue generation, suppression of smuggling, and trade facilitation. “I urge the newly promoted men to redouble their efforts in fulfilling the Service’s core mandates,” Adeniyi emphasized.
While this announcement focuses on junior officers, the NCS revealed that the promotion list for senior officers is still under review and awaiting approval by the Nigeria Customs Service Board.
