Nigeria Peace Web launched to track peacebuilding efforts across Nigeria
A new digital platform designed to document peacebuilding activities across Nigeria has been launched by the Conflict Research Network West Africa (CORN West Africa).
The platform, known as the Nigeria Peace Web (NPW), aims to map peace actors, initiatives and peace-related events across the country.
It was unveiled during a stakeholder dialogue that brought together peacebuilding practitioners, policymakers, researchers and development partners.
The event was held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Foundation Centre.
Organisers say the initiative will help strengthen coordination and evidence-based policymaking in Nigeria’s peacebuilding sector.
Why documenting peace matters
Experts say Nigeria’s conflicts are widely documented by global monitoring systems.
However, peacebuilding efforts often receive far less attention.
The Executive Director of CORN West Africa, Timipere Felix Allison, said this imbalance has created a major gap in research and public discourse.
“Violent incidents, armed actors, and insecurity trends are routinely tracked through global monitoring systems,” he said.
“However, the same cannot be said of the peace landscape.”
He noted that thousands of individuals and organisations work daily to prevent violence.
“Across Nigeria, community mediators, faith leaders, traditional authorities, women’s networks, youth groups, and civil society organisations work every day to prevent violence and manage tensions,” he said.
“Yet much of that work remains undocumented, disconnected, and largely invisible.”
According to him, the Nigeria Peace Web was developed to make these efforts visible and searchable.
How the Nigeria Peace Web works
The platform aggregates structured data on peace actors, initiatives and peace events across Nigeria.
It is being developed under the Nigeria Peace Actors and Initiatives in Data (NPAID) project.
Funding for the project comes from the UK government through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
The project operates under the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (SPRiNG) programme implemented by Tetra Tech International Development.
Participants at the dialogue included civil society groups, research institutions, government representatives, diplomatic missions and peacebuilding organisations
Stakeholders raise recommendations
Participants welcomed the platform but highlighted areas for improvement.
One major discussion focused on defining what qualifies as a peace activity.
Stakeholders noted that peacebuilding interventions can include mediation, dialogue platforms, reconciliation initiatives and peace education.
They also stressed the need for strong data verification systems.
Suggestions included transparent validation processes and multi-source verification to ensure the reliability of information uploaded to the platform.
Grassroots peace efforts often overlooked
Another major theme during the dialogue was the need to document informal peacebuilding activities at community level.
Participants said traditional leaders, religious institutions and youth groups often play crucial roles in preventing violence.
However, many of their efforts remain undocumented due to limited digital visibility.
Stakeholders suggested introducing community reporting systems and enabling offline documentation to be uploaded to the platform.
They also recommended expanding documentation formats to include images, reports and multimedia evidence.
Towards a national peace knowledge hub
Experts say the Nigeria Peace Web could eventually become a national knowledge hub for peacebuilding.
By mapping organisations and projects, stakeholders can identify who is working in specific communities.
This could reduce duplication of interventions and highlight areas where support is most needed.
Participants also recommended linking the platform with training programmes for journalists to promote peace journalism.
CORN West Africa outlines next steps
CORN West Africa said the platform will continue to evolve through collaboration with stakeholders.
The organisation’s Head of Programme, Omolara Raji, thanked participants for contributing ideas to improve the platform.
“If the Nigeria Peace Web is to succeed, it will be because peace actors across Nigeria choose to use it, shape it, and own it,” she said.
“Our collective goal is to move from fragmented, episodic peace interventions toward coordinated prevention and cumulative learning, so that peace becomes as visible, measurable, and strategically supported as conflict has long been.”
Where the platform is being piloted
The Nigeria Peace Web is currently being piloted in three states.
They include Plateau State, Kaduna State and Katsina State.
Organisers say the initiative could later expand to all 36 states of Nigeria.
Experts believe better documentation of peace initiatives could strengthen conflict prevention strategies across the country.
The National Police Day 2026 celebrations ended with a colourful parade in Abuja, as the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirmed the force’s commitment to professionalism, public trust, and national security.
The ceremony, held at Eagle Square, brought together officers from across the country and signalled renewed efforts to strengthen policing in Nigeria.
Tinubu Restates Reform Agenda
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima praised the Nigeria Police Force for its resilience and dedication.
He said the Federal Government remains committed to improving police welfare, operational capacity, and reforms.
“The Federal Government will continue to strengthen police reforms, operational capacity, and personnel welfare in line with national security priorities.”
IGP Disu: ‘Time for Accountability and Trust’
In his address, IGP Disu described the event as a moment to honour fallen officers and reinforce the values of discipline and service.
“National Police Day is a moment to honour fallen heroes and reinforce the values of discipline, professionalism, and service.”
He stressed the need for a more accountable and intelligence-driven police system.
“We must build a more accountable, intelligence-driven, and community-focused Police Force.”
The police chief also assured Nigerians of ongoing efforts to improve public trust and policing standards nationwide.
Inter-Agency Collaboration on Display
The parade featured multiple security agencies, reflecting growing cooperation in tackling insecurity.
Participating agencies included the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Security experts say such collaboration is key to addressing complex threats like terrorism, cybercrime, and cross-border crime.

The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested 47 suspects and recovered firearms, ammunition, and vehicles in a series of intelligence-led operations across the state.
Speaking at a press briefing, Commissioner of Police Tijani Olayiwola Fatai said the arrests were linked to offences including armed robbery, cultism, fraud, and vehicle theft.
“These arrests and recoveries are outcomes of deliberate, intelligence-led strategies and community partnership,” he said.
Key Recoveries and Arrests
Police say the operation led to the recovery of:
14 firearms, including pump-action guns
96 rounds of live ammunition
14 vehicles
29 mobile phones and laptops
Other items linked to criminal activity
Authorities say the suspects will be charged to court after investigations are completed.
Cultism, Robbery, and Fraud Cases Uncovered
Among the major cases highlighted:
A suspected armed robber, identified as Jamiu Yahaya, was arrested in Amukoko with a locally made pistol.
A 23-year-old alleged cultist linked to the Aiye confraternity was arrested in Ajegunle.
Police arrested 21 suspects at a hotel party in Ajao Estate linked to cult activity.
An 18-year-old suspect was caught attempting to collect a ₦20 million ransom in Ojokoro.
A suspected fraudster accused of defrauding a microfinance bank of ₦130 million was arrested, with luxury vehicles recovered.
“The Command will not tolerate any form of criminality,” Mr Fatai warned.
