Nigerian-Born LGBTQ Activist Receives  National Diversity Award in UK

A London-based Nigerian-born citizen Olanrewaju Ayinla popularly known as Lanre Larry has been given certificate of achievement with National Diversity Awards for championing the human rights, equality, and dignity of the LGBTQ African community in the United Kingdom.

Lanre is an LGBTI+ rights activist and member of Out and Proud African LGBTI, a refugee-led organisation dedicated to supporting African immigrants and LGBTI asylum seekers.

The  event  took place at the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool city of England.

Lanre was shortlisted from over 50,000 applications which stands as a  landmark achievement and a clear testimony of his hard work, resilience, and dedication to equality, diversity, and inclusion agenda.

Lanre is also known from his works as  a volunteer to many UK-based charity. organisations and a member of human rights organisation such as Movement for Justice by Any Means Necessary, his critical and challenging efforts within the UK’s African LGBTQ community against all odds has pulled down many barriers and also liberated many oppressed souls.

Ondo Monarch, Olojoda Dies One Month After Assuming Stool

The revered Olojoda of Oda, in the Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Julius Ajayi Adewumi Omomo, has passed away at the age of 83.

The Palace officials confirmed his demise, marking the end of a brief yet impactful reign that began just last year following the death of his predecessor.

Oba Omomo was celebrated for his humble and approachable nature, characteristics that endeared him to his subjects and fellow leaders alike.

“The late monarch cared for his subjects as well as the unity and progress of the state,” said Adelakun, a close associate of the late king, reflecting on Oba Omomo’s dedication to his community and the broader welfare of Ondo State.

Although short-lived, his tenure was noted for his remarkable contributions to the local community, which included fostering a sense of togetherness and steering numerous developmental initiatives.

Plans for the mourning period and the subsequent installation of a successor are expected to be announced by the palace in the coming days.

Olupejobi Royal Family Of Otto & Mainland To Meet On April 27th

The Oloto of Otto and Paramount ruler of Lagos Mainland, HRM Alayeluwa Oba Muh’bashir Abisoye Odesanya Olupejobi II, has called for a meeting of all living descendants of Olupejobi Branch.

 

The announcement, which was made through the Lisa of Otto and Lagos Mainland, Chief Francis Ishola-Oloto, is a clarion call to all members of the Olupejobi royal family in its tradition of fostering camaraderie, exchange of ideas, and strengthening the bonds within the family. The meeting would also serve as a unique opportunity to socialize and discuss matters of mutual interest, share experiences, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

 

The meeting, which is slated to hold on the 27th of April, 2024 at the Oloto’s palace is an initiative of the charismatic, humble and very intelligent ruler whose benevolence, works of philanthropy, sense of responsibility, love of family and dedication to royal duty are phenomenal.

 

DASCENARIO recalls that after scaling through the traditional selection rites of assumption to the throne of his fore-fathers in 2022, the installation of HRM Alayeluwa Oba Muh’bashir Abisoye Odesanya as the Oloto of Otto land was approved by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and was performed  by Hon. Bolaji Kayode Robert (Bibiire), SA to the Governor on Local Government and Community Affairs, in line with the registered declaration regulating the selection of Obas in Lagos State.

“Exercise Caution And Restraint This Period” – Ibadan King’s Men

A group known as the Ibadan King’s Men has warned members of Olubadan-in-Council and Ibadan indigenes not to make any unnecessary statement in respect of the Olubadan stool.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In a statement released by the group published by Naija News’ Members of the Olubadan-in-Council are currently at loggerheads over the Olubadan stool.

 

 

The group, after an emergency meeting held at University of Ibadan and presided over by the duo of Alhaji Olatunji Oladejo (Convener) and Gaphar Ojetola (Co-convener), enjoined the Council members and Ibadan indigenes not to make further comments in the public on the matter.

 

 

 

 

They explained that the emergency meeting was convened in response to the misunderstanding among the Council members.

 

 

It also urged indigenes of the ancient city to contribute positively and not to cause crisis.

 

 

The group while speaking further, enjoined all key actors and other stakeholders to refrain from making inflammatory statements that can heat the polity.

 

 

 

 

They said, “The interview granted by one of the High Chiefs on the matter which has gone viral is in bad taste and suggested an untoward development within the rank of Olubadan-in-Council.

 

 

“All key players should exercise caution and restraint during this trying period by not allowing politicians to meddle in the age-long and enviable traditional chieftaincy ascension system in Ibadanland.

 

 

“All Ibadan indigenes should disengage from discussing all issues relating to this imbroglio on social media.”
