In a bid to strengthen security efforts within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) FCT Command has initiated the second batch of arms training for 115 personnel.
The event, held at the command’s headquarters in Abuja, underscores the agency’s commitment to preparing its officers to meet the challenges of protecting critical infrastructure and addressing criminal activities in the FCT.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, FCT Commandant Dr. Olusola Odumosu emphasized the importance of the training in ensuring personnel are “well-equipped and combat-ready” to tackle security issues.
Dr. Odumosu noted the Corps’ mission to maintain the FCT’s infrastructure while confronting threats from vandals and miscreants.
“For us in the FCT Command, we are determined to continue protecting critical infrastructure in the FCT and to flush out vandals and miscreants disturbing the peace of the seat of power.
Your knowledge of weapons handling is very pivotal and instrumental to achieving the objectives of keeping the FCT safe, and you cannot afford to take this training with levity,” he charged the participants.
The training program, Dr. Odumosu explained, is part of the NSCDC’s broader strategy to sustain security efforts across the capital city, ensuring the safety of public assets through continuous surveillance and round-the-clock patrols.
This approach is aimed at enhancing government initiatives to provide security and stability for the residents of Abuja.
Emphasizing the value of professionalism, Dr. Odumosu urged trainees to fully engage in the curriculum. “You must maintain a high level of discipline and you must pay attention to every detail in the training curriculum because I am counting on you to join forces with others to contribute your quota to the fulfillment of the Corps mandate,” he said, calling for a diligent and committed approach from all participants.
The Commandant further advised the trainees to exhibit competence and dedication as they undergo the rigorous training program.
He noted that the Corps is on a mission to secure the FCT’s infrastructure and assets and requires a team fully equipped and capable of handling the demands of the job.
“Our overarching vision is to fulfill our mandate of making our critical infrastructure and national assets safe and secure, hence, we must train, retrain, and work as a team with the capability to deliver,” Odumosu reiterated.
The event also offered Dr. Odumosu an opportunity to thank the residents of the FCT for their ongoing cooperation with the NSCDC and appealed for continued support, especially in providing intelligence and credible information that would help the Corps combat crime in the region.
The FCT Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Ojobi Monica, confirmed that the arms training is an essential component of the Corps’ proactive measures to address security concerns and enhance the safety of the nation’s capital.
