NSCDC Intensifies Security in Awka Ahead of Soludo’s Second-Term Swearing-In
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has stepped up security operations in Awka ahead of the swearing-in of Charles Chukwuma Soludo for a second term.
Officials say the move is part of a coordinated effort with other security agencies to maintain law and order during the high-profile event in Anambra State.
In a statement, the NSCDC confirmed that personnel have been deployed to critical national assets and key locations across the state.
“The Corps in collaboration with sister security agencies in Anambra State have intensified operations across the state, particularly in Awka, as preparations continue for the swearing-in,” the statement said.
The agency added that officers have been stationed at strategic infrastructure points to prevent disruptions and ensure a smooth inauguration ceremony.
Why It Matters
The swearing-in of a sitting governor for a second term is a major political event that often draws large crowds, dignitaries and heightened public attention.
Security experts say such gatherings can pose risks if not properly managed, making coordinated operations essential to prevent unrest, traffic disruptions or threats to public safety.
Industry and Public Reactions
While there has been no reported security threat, analysts say the proactive deployment reflects lessons learned from previous public events across Nigeria.
What Authorities Are Saying
According to SC Okadigbo Edwin, Head of Media and Tactical Operations for NSCDC in Anambra State, the agency is working closely with other security bodies to ensure full coverage.
“Officers and men have been deployed to critical national assets and infrastructure and other key locations to maintain order and ensure a peaceful and hitch-free inauguration ceremony.”
What’s Next
The swearing-in ceremony is expected to attract political leaders, stakeholders and supporters from across the country.
Security agencies are likely to maintain heightened surveillance before, during and after the event to ensure stability across the state.

Ex-NAOSS President Alleges Police Collusion With Cultists in Ondo Assault Incident
Mary Ogunga, the Emeritus National President of the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), has raised serious allegations against the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Ondo State, accusing one of its officers of colluding with suspected cultists and internet fraudsters following a violent assault incident.
In a public statement addressed to the Ondo State Police Command and the general public, Ogunga detailed how she and a commercial motorcyclist were attacked earlier in the day by men she described as members of the Eye fraternity — a known cult group — who were celebrating their anniversary.
“Earlier today, 15th June 2025, while riding on a commercial motorcycle, a reckless driver suddenly made an abrupt U-turn, resulting in a minor collision between his vehicle and the motorcycle I was on. Instead of a peaceful resolution, a group of young men emerged from the vehicle, visibly under the influence of drugs and armed with various dangerous instruments.”
According to her, the attackers violently assaulted the motorcycle rider, causing a head injury that led to bleeding. Ogunga ran to seek help from nearby police officers of the CP Surveillance team, only to be met with further disappointment.
“On arriving, I met a police officer who claimed the matter had already been ‘settled.’ Shockingly, the officer, identified as Supol Banty, failed to take the matter to the police station. Instead, he forced the injured bike rider to pay for the vehicle’s side mirror, completely ignoring our injuries and damages.”
Ogunga alleged that the police officer appeared compromised, having accepted bribes from the cultists.
“It was evident that these attackers had bribed the officer, who then compromised his duty by siding with them. As a law-abiding citizen and leader of the Ondo student body, I was deeply humiliated and demoralized. This experience has left me questioning the impartiality of our security agencies, especially when it appears justice is reserved only for those who can pay for it.”
Condemning the officer’s actions and the impunity of the cult group, she called for an immediate investigation and disciplinary measures.
“This incident is not only an affront to my person but also a clear reflection of the challenges ordinary Nigerians face in seeking justice. I strongly condemn the abuse of power, the neglect of duty by Officer Supol Banty, and the dangerous alliance between criminals and law enforcement officials.”
In her demands, Ogunga urged the authorities to:
1. Investigate the incident thoroughly, including the role of Officer Supol Banty.
2. Ensure that the assailants are identified and prosecuted.
3. Sanction any officer found guilty of extortion or collusion.
4. Restore public trust in the police through transparency and accountability.
She also warned that failure to take swift action would be met with protests and legal action.
“If not investigated, I will take protests and agitation to the Commissioner of Police. If still unresolved, I will file a lawsuit against the Nigeria Police Force.”
Ogunga concluded with a powerful message:
“Justice must not be for sale, and no citizen should be made to feel less human because they lack the means to bribe their way to safety.”
