Ondo State has taken a significant step toward enhancing its economic development by attracting investments in its oil and gas sector.

The state government, under the leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has pledged full support for Sahara Energy as the company begins operations on two newly licensed oil fields in Ilaje Local Government Area.

During a meeting with Sahara Energy’s management team on Tuesday in Akure, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the state’s commitment to creating an investor-friendly environment to drive economic growth and development.

Federal Approval for Oil Exploration

Sahara Energy recently received licenses from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to manage two oil fields, PPL 270 and PPL 271, located in the riverine communities of Ilaje.

“Ondo State is lucky at this time,” Governor Aiyedatiwa remarked during the meeting. “Although licenses are issued by the federal government, we assure you of our full support to ensure your activities flourish. We remain committed to maintaining Ondo as the safest state in the country and fostering an investor-friendly climate,” he said.

The governor called on host communities to support the company’s operations, stressing the importance of collaboration for the mutual benefit of the state and its people.

Sahara Energy Commits to Compliance

Engr. Funsho Kupolokun, Chairman of the Board of Sahara Energy and a former Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), praised the state’s welcoming approach. He described the visit as an essential step toward launching the company’s operations in the region.

“We are here to share good news with the Ondo State government, and it must begin with His Excellency. Before commencing operations, we seek the governor’s permission and blessings to ensure a smooth working relationship with the state,” Kupolokun stated.

Kupolokun, a native of Ondo State, also assured the governor that Sahara Energy would adhere to all state regulations, commending the administration for making the state a prime destination for investors.

State Officials in Attendance

The meeting was attended by key government officials, including Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami, Chief of Staff Prince Segun Omojuwa, Head of Service Mr. Bayo Philips, and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, SAN.

This development underscores Governor Aiyedatiwa’s efforts to position Ondo State as an economic hub through strategic partnerships and investor-friendly policies.
