Worried by the incessant attacks on school children and all forms of social vices amongst students, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has organized a safety programme for school children, under the “safe school initiative,” of the Corps in Lagos state.

 

The initiative which was organized, yesterday, Thursday, 23rd March, 2023, at Gulf Flower Schools located, in Oworonshoki, by the NSCDC, Lagos state Command in partnership with a private security organization, known as Safety Signature was aimed at educating school children on how to overcome any security challenge they may encounter.

 

The State Commandant, NSCDC, Lagos state Command, Commandant of Corps Usman Alfadarai, fdc, mnim, mpa, fisn, who was represented by Deputy Superintendent of Corps Oluwaseun Abolurin, the Civil Defence Public Relations Officer , Lagos State Command, maintained that the initiative which was kicked off in Gulf flower school is in line with the vision of the Commandant General of the corps, CG Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, dfisn, OFR, to safeguard all school environments.

 

CC Alfadarai added that the sensitization programme would be taken to other schools in the state in a bid to make Lagos state as safe as possible.

 

Similarly, the Deputy Superintendent of Corps Ada Agada , Head of Special Female Squad Unit , Lagos Command, while addressing the students stretched the relevance of the initiative, which was set up to help students curb, the effect of social vices such as sexual harassment, bullying, cultism etc..

 

On her own part, the Managing Director, Safety Signature, Dr Cynthia Greg advised students to always shun sexual harassment and other social vices.

 

She also called on victims of such unfortunate incidens to speak out, adding that her organization will ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

 

Some students who spoke with newsmen at the backdrop of the Corps’ event, Adeboyejo and Praise commended the NSCDC and Safety Signature for bringing such programme to their school.

 

They also called on their fellow students to make good use of what they learnt during the programme and also face their studies as they are now, in examination period.

 

Finally, the students were also allowed to ask budging questions to them in relations to their varying experiences with social vices amongst their mates in school. Adequate answers and advices were given to them, with their minds being refocussed on their academic and practical works, good character and principles of life to ensure their optimal success in life.

ECONOMIC SABOTAGE: POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED CRUDE OIL SMUGGLING TRUCKS, OPERATORS IN ENUGU

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the IGP Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering (IGP-STFPIB) have intercepted and apprehended two trucks suspected to be involved in the smuggling of petroleum products, believed to be crude oil.

The trucks were identified as a MAN-Diesel open-body truck with registration number LGT 775 XA and a DAF XF open-body truck with registration number FKY 245 YF. Upon sighting our personnel, the drivers attempted to flee and resist arrest, but they were eventually apprehended by the vigilant officers.

In a statement issued by the Force’s Spokesperson ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that both trucks were found to be loaded with petroleum products, concealed in GeePee tanks covered with tarpaulin. Each truck was laden with 38 GeePee tanks. The interception occurred at Obollo-Afor in Enugu State. The trucks, along with the petroleum product, have been securely impounded at the Obollo-Afor Divisional Police Headquarters, while further investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun reiterates that the NPF remains committed to combating purveyors of illegal activities which sabotage the economy such as petroleum smuggling, bunkering and the likes, and will continue to work tirelessly to dismantle their operations; while urging well-meaning members of the public to cooperate with the Police by providing timely and relevant information necessary for curbing these criminal activities in our society.

NSCDC , POLICE STRENGTHEN SYNERGY TO FLUSH OUT CRIMINALS IN ANAMBRA

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has pledged to partner Nigeria Police and other sister security agencies towards combating insecurity in Anambra State.

This was disclosed by Commandant Maku Olatunde, the State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command on Thursday April 18 , 2024 at the Police Headquarters, Awka during a familiarization visit to the Anambra State, Commissioner of Police, CP Adeoye Aderemi.

Comdt. Maku said the visit to the CP became imperative to further strengthen the working relationship between the two sister agencies in enhancing adequate security of lives and property of Ndi Anambra.

“I am here as a mark of respect and honour to thank you for the way you are coordinating the affairs of all security agencies in the state.

” We have been on the same page since my arrival to Anambra State, the support both in information sharing and reinforcement of operations you extended to us is one that should be commended.

” I will not fail to thank the CP for supporting the NSCDC Anti-Sit -at-home operations every Monday, your disposition to supporting us in the protection of Critical, National, State and Local Government Assets which is one of our mandate has shown that all security agencies in the State are one” he said .

The NSCDC State boss used the opportunity of his visit to congratulate the CP for successful thirty five years meritorious service to the nation ahead of his forthcoming retirement.

” When I learnt, you will soon retire after a glorious service, I thought it wise also to appreciate your outstanding performance to the nation.

“You have done well, my prayer is that God will strengthen and keep sustaining you even after retirement ” he concluded.

In his response, CP Adeoye thanked the NSCDC State Commandant for the visit, which according to him, will foster greater synergy and bonding between the two security agencies.

” This visit is what is needed to discuss and plan on how best to secure Anambra residents.

” We are children of the Federal Government, we cannot afford to let down the Federal Government.

” I must commend you on the Anti-Sit -at-home Operations on Mondays, I know the challenges, but you have risen above them to secure lives and properties. You are indeed a team player.

CP Adeoye who described the relationship between both agencies as rewarding, promised to collaborate with the NSCDC to achieve a safer environment for Ndi Anambra free from all criminal activities.

He reiterated the need for all security agencies to remain focused and committed towards securing the state .

The Anambra Police Commissioner wished the State Commandant a successful tour of duty in the state with a charge to do his best in terms of performance to justify the confidence reposed on him by his boss, the Commandant General of NSCDC.

ACCIDENT : LASTMA RESCUES DRIVER AND 5 OTHERS AFTER LOADED TRUCK OVERTURNS AT OJOTA.

In the early hours of this today, a Volvo truck (unregistered) carrying a full loaded of food items overturned on its side while moving from motor-way inward Ojota area of Lagos. Among those involved in the accident were the truck driver and five passengers, including three women.

The Director, Public Affairs and enlightenment Department of LASTMA Mr. Adebayo Taofiq confirmed that promptly responding to the incident, Officials from LASTMA were able to successfully rescue the severely injured truck driver and the five passengers from the scene of the accident.

Immediate investigation revealed that the injured truck driver lost control while on top speed due to brake failure.

Zebra Bakare Sulaimon Akanbi, stationed at Zone 11, Ojota/Fadeyi, confirmed that rescue operation was conducted with security personnel back-up.

According to Zebra Akanbi “rescued injured driver and 5 others were immediately handed over to personnel of the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) on ground for medical attention”

Present at the scene were key members of the LASTMA rescue team, including Mr. Hakeem Adeosun, the Director of Traffic Incidents, Event Monitoring, Enforcement and Compliance.

The falling loaded truck was eventually evacuated from accident scene by LASTMA personnel to enable unhindered free vehicular movements inward Ojota from motorways.

The General Manager of LASTMA Mr. Olalekan Bakare Oki while sympathising with injured victims however emphasized the importance of vehicle safety and urged all motorists, especially heavy truck drivers, to prioritize safety checks before embarking on journeys within or outside the State.
