The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu has promised to partner the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Ogun State Chapter to ensure the success of forthcoming National Festival tagged ‘Gateway Games 2024″.

Senator Salisu gave the promise while addressing the sports journalists at the birthday ceremony of the Executive chairman of Obafemi Owode Local government, Hon. Adesina Ogunsola held in Abeokuta.

The lawmaker who described the partnership with Sports Writers as crucial to the overall development of sports in the country encouraged them to do everything within their power to ensure that the biennial event in Ogun State becomes a force to be reckoned with.

Salisu who underscores the importance of Sports as a tool for youths empowerment, maintained that the association must begin to create more awareness about the preparedness of the state government.

He, however, assured that, he would create a window of entertainment and engagement for the youths during the festival as the Senator representing Ogun Central.

“I’m going to do something with SWAN to see what we can do in central to support the National Sports Festival, but we must have a window in Ogun Central to see what we can do. I am promising you that, I’m going to partner with you to see what we can do with you. It is your pride that the NSF is successful, Salisu charges SWAN

“If there’s anything you believe I can do and also serve as an interface between you and the government of the state in order to make the event very memorable, please don’t hesitate.

“Because at the end of day for you as Sports writers as well, your pride will be that the best organized national sports festival takes place in our state, in a state where you are practicing your trade, so don’t let us wait for whatever the shortcomings to now begin to report and do analysis that we’re doing low levels, in fact, let us be proactive enough.

“In fact , if you have a position paper to say this is the position of Sports Writers of Nigeria on how to make the NSF a success, write it and let me have it, I promise to pass it across to the governor.”

Sunday Oliseh Fires Back at Obi Mikel, Calls Him “Kid” Over Coaching Jibe

Published

on

Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has responded to Obi Mikel’s criticism of his coaching abilities, calling the former captain a “kid” who needs help.

Oliseh, who coached the team from 2015 to 2016, highlighted his achievements, including winning the Best Manager of the Season award in the Jupiler League and leading Fortuna Duesseldorf to promotion from the second division.

He expressed his willingness to help Mikel, whom he considers a youngster, noting that achieving legend status requires more than just talking on a podcast.

Oliseh’s response comes after Mikel questioned his coaching expertise on a recent podcast, sparking a war of words between the two former teammates.

“I think the kid (Mikel) needs help, to be honest. There’s something I’ve not really shown much, I won the best coach for the first period of the Jupiler League, which is in the Dutch league”, Sunday Oliseh said.

“That was not voted by the press, that was voted by the players and the coaches of the league.

“I’m the only, and the first coloured man from Sub-Saharan Africa to ever win this title with a club like Fortuna Duesseldorf, who had very average players who were able to qualify from the second division from last position to the first division, where they still are now.

“I don’t need to justify myself being a good coach or anything to the kid. I call him (Mikel) a kid because my son is 27 years old.

“When he made this statement, I heard about it, but I couldn’t go on television and start arguing with someone like him. It’s degrading as a coach, you don’t go into the media and start arguing with your player.

“But I would like to help the boy because I think he needs some help. You cannot become a legend with your mouth.

“You cannot achieve what you were not able to achieve on the pitch outside the pitch by talking on a podcast.”
