2027 Election: APC Confident Amid Opposition, Says Gov Uzodimma

Published

on

Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, has assured that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not intimidated by opposition parties or their strategic meetings ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, where the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) signed an agreement with Tunmef Global Limited for digital membership registration, Uzodimma emphasized that only Nigerians would determine the next ruling party.

“We are not afraid of what the opposition will say. Our duty is to organize our party to be respected all over the world.

“We are expecting elections, and APC is not a party built on a platform that expects no contest. There is no democracy anywhere in the world without contest. Nigerians will decide,” he said.

APC Introduces Digital Membership Registration

At the signing event, APC National Chairman, Umar Ganduje, highlighted the importance of the new digital registration system, stating that it would streamline party records and resolve disputes over membership registers during legal battles.

“Without documentation of this type, we are just beating about the bush. But with this exercise, we are sure of having scientific data which we can always use.

During litigation, sometimes you look for a membership list and get a controversial one, which complicates your case in court. With e-registration, we can easily retrieve our data as it is,” Ganduje said.

He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the initiative, which had been in the works for years but had not been implemented until now.

“We are always making history as a party. I want to thank Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for approving that we go digital. This program was conceived a long time ago but didn’t see the light of day until now,” he stated.

Ganduje urged APC governors and state chairmen to ensure the project’s successful implementation.

“The implementation of this project is solely on your back as governors and state chairmen.

“I’m happy you are here to see the details and sign the agreement. You are expected to give full cooperation so that we can have our complete data,” he added.

Rivers State Political Crisis: APC Chieftain Slams National Assembly Caucus

Published

on

Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct nPDP, has strongly criticized members of the Rivers State National Assembly Caucus, labeling them an “assemblage of habitual adult bedwetters.”

Eze condemned their recent communiqué, dismissing it as baseless and exposing their ignorance regarding the protracted leadership crisis within the Rivers State House of Assembly.

He accused the lawmakers of focusing on political schemes rather than fulfilling their legislative responsibilities.

“Withdrawing the appeal at the Supreme Court by the governor and the dismissal of the suit with cost had nothing to do with the case of defection. Rather than flying a kite and being preemptive, I advise the Rivers State National Assembly Caucus to face their duties in the NASS.

Nigerians are waiting to hear from the Apex Court, let us tarry a while and see what happens.”

Blames INEC for the Crisis

Eze further blamed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to conduct by-elections to fill the vacant seats of 27 defected lawmakers, accusing INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, of enabling the crisis.

“I blame the INEC for not being alive to its statutory role as an independent umpire. The 27 lawmakers and their demigod are boasting and parading themselves as lawmakers because Prof. Yakubu Mahmood has refused to obey the court and conduct bye-elections to replace the vacant positions in the Rivers State House of Assembly.”

Defends Governor Fubara’s Decision

Addressing the role of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Eze defended his decision to withdraw legal actions, stating that it was done out of respect for President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the crisis.

He warned that if Fubara is humiliated for complying with the president’s truce request, history will not be kind to Tinubu.

“If President Tinubu allows Fubara to be humiliated for respecting him as an elder and President of Nigeria, then posterity will never be fair to President Tinubu.”

He also criticized the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, alleging that he is working to suppress opposition in Rivers State in favor of APC’s dominance.

Calls for Supreme Court Resolution

Eze reaffirmed his confidence in the Supreme Court’s upcoming verdict on the Rivers Assembly crisis, stressing that no amount of political manipulation can override democratic principles in the state.

“No amount of intimidation, conspiracy, arm-twisting, or murdering the law will make the people of Rivers State fold their hands and watch anti-democratic forces hijack the state from the ruling PDP.”

Conclusion

Eze urged the Rivers State lawmakers to focus on their legislative duties rather than engaging in divisive politics, reiterating that their roles are to create laws and serve their constituents.

He also called on INEC to conduct the necessary bye-elections to restore legitimacy to the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Mudashiru Obasa Sues Lagos Speaker Meranda, Demands Reinstatement

Published

on

Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has filed a lawsuit at the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, seeking an immediate reinstatement as the head of the state legislature.

According to court documents obtained by Lagos Reporters, Obasa argues that his removal on January 13, 2025, was unlawful and unconstitutional.

The lawsuit, filed on February 14, 2025, lists Lasbat Mojisola Meranda—the current Speaker—and the Lagos State House of Assembly as defendants.

The legal battle follows unsuccessful attempts to resolve the leadership dispute through political negotiations.

Sources revealed that several high-level meetings involving Lagos and Abuja political stakeholders took place to broker peace. However, these efforts reportedly failed to yield a resolution.

Some lawmakers fear that reinstating Obasa could lead to political retaliation against those who supported his removal.

With the court now set to decide the leadership fate of the Lagos Assembly, the outcome could have significant implications for the state’s legislative stability.

More updates to follow as the case unfolds.
