Anambra Civil Servants Endorse Soludo’s Transformation Agenda on Workers’ Day

Published

on

Anambra State civil servants have expressed renewed confidence in the leadership of Governor Charles Soludo, applauding his transformation agenda during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration held in Awka.

Speaking at the event, the Anambra State Head of Service, Barr. Theodora Okwy Igwegbe, reaffirmed that workers in the state are satisfied with the progress recorded under Governor Soludo’s administration.

“This year’s theme, ‘Reclaiming Civic Space Amidst Economic Hardship,’ reflects not only the national context but also the efforts of our governor to implement economic policies that cushion the effect of current economic challenges on workers,” Igwegbe stated.

She cited the implementation of the new Minimum Wage Act and the governor’s economic policies as critical efforts aimed at alleviating workers’ burdens. She further praised the administration’s achievements in the healthcare sector, particularly the introduction of free antenatal and delivery services for women.

Igwegbe also noted the growing reputation of the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIS), which she said has become a reference point for other states.

Despite these milestones, the Head of Service acknowledged the need for more reforms to fully enhance workers’ welfare. She urged civil servants to continue displaying professionalism, diligence, and punctuality in their duties.

“We commend His Excellency, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, for his impactful governance. However, there’s still room for improvement. I call on our civil servants to remain exemplary in their service delivery,” she added.

In a symbolic gesture of appreciation, Governor Soludo was presented with the “Workers Beacon of Hope” award by the state workforce.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Anambra used the occasion to emphasize the need to protect citizens’ rights, particularly during economic hardship.

“We must continue to protect the rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and association,” union leaders stated, “and we urge the government to ensure the Civic Space remains open for the voices of civil servants to be heard.”

The unions also raised concerns over unresolved labour matters, including the establishment of a joint committee to safeguard the Contributory Pension Scheme and the domestication of the 65-year retirement age or 40 years of service policy for teachers.

The 2025 Workers’ Day celebration ended on a note of unity and hope, as government representatives and labour leaders pledged to continue working towards a more inclusive and welfare-driven public service system in Anambra State

Soludo Breaks 34-Year Jinx as Anambra Gets First Purpose-Built Government House

Published

on

Anambra State has finally received its first purpose-built Government House and Governor’s Lodge, more than three decades after the state was created in 1991.

The landmark project, spearheaded by Governor Charles Soludo, marks the end of a 34-year wait and fulfils a longstanding promise to give Anambra a befitting government complex in the state capital, Awka.

Known for his transformative leadership style, Soludo, often referred to as “Mr. Fixer”, “Mr. Reformer” and “Mr. Jinx Breaker”, described the project as a generational achievement that symbolises his administration’s commitment to infrastructural renewal.

According to Adichie Izuchukwu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, “The new Government House is not just an infrastructure project; it represents a milestone and a generational change that carries historical significance.”

The new executive complex is one of several key developments delivered under Soludo’s watch. Among them is the Solution Fun City, described as a tourist delight designed to enhance leisure and livability in Anambra.

Additionally, the 19.1km Awkuzu–Igbariam–Anaku link road, which connects multiple communities, has also been completed.

Soludo’s broader regeneration efforts span various parts of the state, including eight major roads in Omagba Phase Two, such as Umunya Street, Heritage Street, Elite Club Road/Heritage Extension, Udodi Street, Enugu-Agidi Street Extension 1 and 2, Ofonze Street, Anam Street, Ikemba Street and Extension/Best Aluminum Street, and Esotrack Street.

These projects form part of what Soludo calls his “infrastructure revolution”, aimed at boosting connectivity and economic integration across Anambra.

Critics and supporters alike have acknowledged the governor’s pace of delivery. His administration is now being viewed as one of purposeful action, with a vision to turn Anambra into a “livable and prosperous homeland”.
