False Kidnap Alarm in Ago Okota: Lagos Police Debunk Viral Video

The Lagos State Police Command has clarified that the viral video showing three young men being beaten over alleged kidnapping in Victory Estate, Ago Okota, was based on false information.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, held a fact-finding meeting on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, with key stakeholders, including the estate’s chairman, chief security officer, two residents, and one of the accused men.
Following a thorough investigation, the police confirmed that there was no kidnapping incident in the estate.
The estate chairman stated:
“The people are not kidnappers.”
Similarly, the chief security officer and a member of the estate’s security committee corroborated this, emphasizing:
“The three men are not kidnappers, and there was no kidnapping incident at the estate as falsely spread on social media.”
The police revealed that the three men had visited a friend in the estate around 10 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025.
A misunderstanding with a tricycle rider escalated, leading to a commotion, which was misinterpreted and spread online as a kidnap attempt.
The Lagos Police Command condemned the viral video as “false, misleading, and malicious,” warning that misinformation could incite fear and disrupt public peace.
The command urged Lagosians to verify information before sharing, stating:
“People are implored not to take laws into their hands.”
Residents are assured of their safety as police presence remains strong across Lagos to prevent harassment and intimidation.

NYSC Members in Jato Aka Turan Demand Security as Deadly Attacks Persist

NYSC members serving in Jato Aka Turan, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, have expressed deep concerns over escalating insecurity following fresh attacks by suspected herdsmen.
The attacks, which reportedly claimed at least 20 lives within two days, have left the community in fear.
Speaking with SaharaReporters on Wednesday, corps members described the incidents, which occurred between Sunday and Tuesday, as relentless and devastating.
Many residents sustained injuries, while others fled their homes in panic.
Despite the presence of a nearby military base, the community remains vulnerable. Corps members alleged that armed men frequently move through the villages in broad daylight on motorcycles loaded with weapons.
“The Local Government Inspector (LGI) has advised us to relocate to Adikpo if the attacks worsen. But the truth is, even the LGI rarely visits the community except for monthly clearance exercises,” one corps member lamented.
Another corps member recounted their distressing experience:
“We reported to the nearby military checkpoint, and they told us to contact them whenever there’s a problem. But we see over 20 bikes filled with armed men moving freely towards nearby villages.”
On Facebook, a user named Wase Richie Aondofa shared distressing images from the attacks, pleading for urgent government intervention:
“My village is no longer safe. We are dying.”
Further concerns arose from a corps member’s WhatsApp status, which alleged that NYSC officials downplayed the security risks during the orientation camp.
The corps member also reported that the Nigerian Air Force conducted aerial bombardments in the affected area.
According to report efforts to obtain comments from the Benue State Police Command were unsuccessful.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Anene Sewuese Catherine, declined calls and has yet to respond to inquiries.
