Governor Aiyedatiwa Commissions Investment House, Boosts Fire Service with New Trucks

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to economic development by commissioning the Investment House in Akure.

The initiative aims to strengthen investment promotion in Ondo State and improve the ease of doing business.

During the commissioning event, Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted the significance of the Investment House in positioning Ondo as a competitive destination for investors.

“Today, we gather to witness the realization of that vision. This Investment House will serve as a hub for economic activities and investment promotion, providing a conducive environment for both public and private sector partnerships.

The strategic location of this building in the heart of Akure will facilitate unhindered access for investors, thereby opening up our State to the global investment community,” he said.

Honoring Akeredolu’s Vision

Governor Aiyedatiwa paid tribute to his predecessor, the late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, who initially conceived the Investment House project as a one-stop center for business activities in the state.

He reiterated his administration’s resolve to complete inherited projects, ensuring that state resources are not wasted.

Emphasizing the importance of maintaining the facility, the Governor urged stakeholders to preserve and maximize the use of the Investment House.

Government Officials Applaud the Initiative

Engr. Olawoye Ayorinde Abiola, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, expressed appreciation for the governor’s efforts to equip youths with essential tools for entrepreneurship and innovation.

Emmanuel Omomowo, the Administrative Secretary of the Ondo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (ONDIPA), also commended the governor, describing the project as a milestone in enhancing the state’s business environment.

Enhancing Fire Safety in Ondo State

In addition to boosting investment infrastructure, Governor Aiyedatiwa also strengthened emergency response in Ondo State by handing over new firefighting trucks to the Ondo State Fire Service.

“An efficient fire service is critical to protecting communities, businesses, and critical infrastructure.

The government will continue to invest in modern firefighting equipment and training for personnel,” the governor stated.

He emphasized the importance of a well-equipped fire service in ensuring public safety and urged emergency responders to make effective use of the newly acquired trucks for optimal service delivery.

Ondo State Lifts Curfew in Owo as Security Situation Improves

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the lifting of the curfew imposed on the Owo community in Owo Local Government Area due to improved security and the peaceful conduct of residents.

With this development, residents of Owo can now resume their daily activities without restrictions.

According to a statement issued by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State, the decision to lift the curfew follows collaborative efforts by security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other key stakeholders.

“With this development, residents of Owo can resume their daily civic activities and movement without any hindrance.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa also appreciated the commitment of security agencies and community leaders in restoring peace:

“The Governor thanked security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and all other stakeholders who rose to the challenge of restoring peace and order to the community.”

The curfew was initially imposed as part of security measures to address threats in the region.

Its removal signals progress in the government’s efforts to ensure lasting peace in Owo and beyond.

Oyo State Inaugurates Grievance Redress Committee for RAAMP Rural Road Projects

Oyo State has taken a significant step towards ensuring seamless implementation of its rural road construction projects by inaugurating the Grievance Redress Committee (GRC) under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).

The committee, established to address potential disputes, was launched in Oluyole Local Government Area.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Director-General of the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), Dr. Debo Akande, emphasized the importance of following the committee’s terms of reference to facilitate smooth execution of the project.

“The meeting was geared towards engaging stakeholders on disclosure of sites, with a view to getting citizens’ buy-in for maintenance of rural roads,” Dr. Akande stated.

He further highlighted that the GRC will play a key role in fostering co-existence between contractors and beneficiary communities, as required by RAAMP. Dr. Akande urged stakeholders to ensure a hitch-free exercise during and after the construction process.

He also commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his commitment to transforming the state’s rural landscape into a thriving agro-driven economy.

Committee’s Role in Conflict Resolution

While inaugurating the Grievance Redress Committee, the Oyo State Project Coordinator for RAAMP, Engr. Adeola Ekundayo, explained that the committee’s primary responsibility is to address grievances from affected communities, particularly farmers whose lands might be impacted by construction.

“The Committee’s primary responsibility is to address grievances from affected communities, particularly farmers whose lands might be impacted by construction, amongst other responsibilities, to enhance hitch-free civil works,” Engr. Ekundayo stated.

He stressed the need for fair handling of all complaints and urged contractors to hire indigent workers from the communities to boost the local economy.

The GRC comprises youth representatives, women, and community leaders across all Phase 1 roads spanning approximately 68km across Oyo State.

The committee will also be responsible for educating communities on construction processes and rights-of-way to prevent misunderstandings.

Government’s Commitment to Security and Development

In his welcome address, the Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, assured that maximum security would be provided during and after the construction.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the development of the council and appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for prioritizing food security and supporting RAAMP’s rural road construction projects across the state.

“I thank the present administration in the state, under the leadership of Engr. Seyi Makinde, for prioritizing food security by supporting RAAMP to strive for the level of construction in the state, which Oluyole Local Government is one of the beneficiaries,” Engr. Olatunji stated.

The Grievance Redress Committee is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring effective communication, transparency, and community engagement as Oyo State progresses with its RAAMP rural road projects.

Court Orders Osun LG Election to Hold on Saturday

An Osun State High Court in Ilesa has directed the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) to proceed with the local government election scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025.

NigeriaUpdates reports that Justice A. A. Aderibigbe, who delivered the ruling on Friday, also declared the positions of chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors across the state’s 30 local government areas vacant.

The ruling was in favor of the claimant, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission and its chairman, Hashim Akintunde Abioye, were listed as defendants.

The court’s judgment states:

“An order of this honourable court is granted, recognizing the existing vacancies across all the 30 Local Government Areas of Osun State, the election conducted by the 1st defendant on 15th October, 2022, having been invalidated, nullified, and voided, and the purported elected officials produced by the purported election having been sacked by the Federal High Court in FHC/CS/OS/103/2022; Action People Party (APP) VS. Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) & ORS, delivered on the 30th November, 2022, and as confirmed by the decision of the Court of Appeal, in Appeal No. CA/AK/226M/2024, Allied People Movement (APM) & ORS vs. Action Peoples Party (APP) & ORS delivered on 13th January, 2025.

“An order of this honourable court is granted, directing, mandating, and compelling the defendants to fill the vacancies across the 30 Local Government Areas of Osun State through a democratic process by proceeding to conduct the Local Government Elections already scheduled by the defendants for 22nd of February, 2025.”

Additionally, the court instructed security agencies to ensure safety before, during, and after the election.

“An order of this honourable court is granted, directing, mandating, and compelling all the security agents comprising the Nigeria Police, the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Security Services (DSS), the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the National Drugs and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Amotekun Corps, the Vigilante Groups, etc., to provide adequate security and maintain peace and order before, during, and after the local government election scheduled by the defendants for 22nd February, 2025, in Osun State.”

With this ruling, OSSIEC is expected to proceed with the election as planned.
