NSCIA Confirms Ramadan 1447 AH, Urges Muslims to Stay Resilient

Published

on

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has announced plans for the commencement of Ramadan 1447 AH, urging Muslims across Nigeria to begin fasting once the crescent is sighted.

The Council also called on the faithful to remain steadfast amid economic and social challenges facing the country.

Under the leadership of its President-General and Amirul Mumineen, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Council said the crescent for the holy month is expected to be sighted on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, corresponding to 29 Sha’aban 1447 AH.

If the crescent is observed that evening, Wednesday, 18 February will mark the first day of fasting.

If not, Ramadan will begin on Thursday, 19 February.

Why It Matters

Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam and is observed by millions of Muslims in Nigeria.

The month is marked by fasting from dawn to sunset, increased prayers, charity and community gatherings.

In a period of rising living costs and security concerns, religious leaders often use the season to encourage unity, patience and compassion.

Moon Sighting Process

The National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC), working in consultation with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), has put measures in place to monitor the crescent’s appearance.

The Council said verified reports will guide the final declaration.

Details of traditional and religious authorities authorised to confirm sightings are available on the NSCIA website.

What’s Next

The final confirmation will depend on verified crescent sightings on 17 February.

Muslims nationwide are advised to await official communication from the NSCIA before commencing fasting.

Ramadan: Adron Homes Urges Unity, Hope as Muslims Begin Holy Month

Published

on

Adron Homes & Properties Limited has congratulated Muslim faithful on the commencement of Ramadan, urging Nigerians to embrace sacrifice, discipline and compassion during the holy month.

In a statement released to journalists, the company described Ramadan as a period of “deep reflection, spiritual renewal, and strengthened devotion to faith and humanity.”

Why it matters

Ramadan is observed by millions of Muslims in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, where religion plays a central role in public and social

Corporate messages during the fasting period often signal broader commitments to community engagement and social responsibility.

For businesses operating in diverse communities, religious observances can also reinforce shared values and national cohesion.

Adron Homes said the lessons of Ramadan align with its corporate philosophy.

“Ramadan is a time that teaches patience, generosity, and selflessness. As our Muslim customers and partners begin the fast, we pray that their sacrifices are accepted and that the season brings peace, joy, and renewed hope to their homes and the nation at large,” the statement read.

Beyond greetings: Housing and community

The property developer reaffirmed its commitment to affordable and accessible housing.

It noted that building homes goes beyond physical structures.

According to the company, it is about creating safe environments where families can thrive.

Nigeria continues to face a significant housing deficit, estimated in the millions of units, according to industry experts.

Urbanisation and rising construction costs have made home ownership increasingly difficult for many families.

Ramadan comes at a time when many Nigerians are navigating rising living costs and economic uncertainty.

Adron Homes also called on citizens to use the period to pray for national unity, economic stability and sustainable growth.

What’s next

The company said it would continue its housing projects across the country.

While Ramadan messages are largely symbolic, stakeholders say long-term impact will depend on how companies translate values into measurable social outcomes.

Adron Homes ended its message with a simple greeting to Muslim faithful:

“Ramadan Mubarak.”

Fasting: Dr Oluremi Ajipe Urges Unity as Christians, Muslims Begin Spiritual Season

Published

on

Christians and Muslims have begun their respective fasting periods, coinciding this year in what some describe as a rare moment of spiritual alignment.

Dr Oluremi Alex Ajipe, a Senate hopeful in Ondo North, has urged both religions communities in Ondo North to use the period to strengthen unity and peaceful coexistence.

In a statement, he described the overlap as a reminder that “beyond our different paths of worship, we are united by a common devotion to God, discipline, sacrifice, and love for humanity.”

Why It Matters

Nigeria has long grappled with religious tensions in some regions, making interfaith harmony a sensitive national issue.

Ondo State, however, has largely maintained peaceful relations between faith groups.

Dr Ajipe said the simultaneous fasting seasons highlight shared values between Christians observing Lent and Muslims marking Ramadan.

“In a world often challenged by division, the harmony between both faiths stands as a shining example of mutual respect and shared values,” he said.

He prayed for strength for the faithful, adding:

“May your prayers be answered, your sacrifices accepted, and may divine favour, mercy, and abundant blessings rest upon you throughout and long after this sacred season.”

He concluded:

“May this period deepen your faith, strengthen our unity, and usher in greater peace and prosperity for all.”

Political Context

Dr Ajipe, who is seeking a seat in the Senate, made the remarks as part of a goodwill message to constituents.

What’s Next?

Faith leaders across Ondo North are expected to hold interfaith prayer sessions and community outreach programmes in the coming weeks.

For residents, however, the message is simple: unity in diversity.

In a statement marking the start of Ramadan 1447 AH, the Nigerian food and beverage company described the month as a time of “peace, reflection, and spiritual fulfilment”.

Ramadan is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer and charity.

In Nigeria, home to one of Africa’s largest Muslim populations, the season also brings increased consumer demand for food and drink products used during iftar — the meal to break the fast at sunset.

Retailers often report higher sales of packaged drinks, water and ready-to-eat snacks during the period.
