Ogun Police Debunk Viral Bandit Video, Launch New Security Facility in Ikenne
The Ogun State Police Command has rejected a viral video circulating on social media that allegedly shows armed men operating in a forest in the state.
Police say the footage is “false, misleading, and recycled”, warning that it could trigger unnecessary panic among residents.
According to the command, preliminary investigations show the video was not recorded in Nigeria but in Kenya during an operation involving cattle rustlers.
The footage, officials added, was first uploaded online in 2022 and has since been reshared with a misleading narrative about Ogun State.
“The video is false, misleading, and does not originate from Ogun State or any part of Nigeria,” the police said in a statement.
Why it matters
Security concerns remain a major issue across parts of Nigeria, and viral misinformation can quickly escalate fear.
Authorities warn that sharing unverified content can undermine public trust and disrupt peace, especially in regions already sensitive to security threats.
Police warn against spreading misinformation
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the spread of the video, saying it could erode confidence in security agencies.
“There is no intelligence or operational report to support the claim of any such criminal presence within forests or any part of Ogun State,” he said.
He urged residents to rely only on official channels for updates and avoid sharing unverified information.
Police also warned that spreading false or inciting content would not be tolerated.
New security facility launched in Ikenne
In a separate development, the police command announced the commissioning of a temporary Ikenne Area Command facility and the groundbreaking for a permanent structure.
The project is aimed at strengthening security operations in the area.
The Inspector-General of Police was represented at the event, where officials highlighted the importance of collaboration between communities and security agencies.
“This is a clear demonstration of community-driven support for effective policing,” Mr Ojajuni said.
Community partnership and digital security push
Police praised the Ikenne Security Coordinating Centre for adopting digital tools to improve intelligence sharing and emergency response.
The Ikenne Development Association was also commended for supporting the project.
Experts say such partnerships are increasingly important in tackling security challenges at the grassroots level.
What’s next
The Ogun State Police say they will continue intelligence-led policing and strategic deployments across the state.
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities through official emergency lines and remain vigilant.

Lagos Honours IGP Disu, Signals Push for Professional Policing and Public Trust
Olatunji Rilwan Disu, Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has been honoured at a state banquet in Lagos, days after his appointment to lead the country’s police force.
The event, hosted by Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos State House in Marina, brought together government officials, security leaders, and members of the public.
It marked both a celebration of Mr Disu’s career and a symbolic “homecoming” to the state where he built much of his policing reputation.
‘A product of Lagos’ — Governor
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the police chief as a leader shaped by Lagos and its institutions, highlighting his record in law enforcement.
“The IGP is a product of Lagos, shaped by its communities and institutions, and defined by a strong commitment to service.”
He pointed to Mr Disu’s time as head of the Rapid Response Squad as a period marked by discipline and operational efficiency.
IGP Disu pledges reforms and public trust
In his remarks, Mr Disu thanked the Lagos State Government and residents for what he called a warm reception.
“This is a personal homecoming,” he said, reflecting on his years of service in the state.
He reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding trust in policing across Nigeria, with a focus on professionalism and community engagement.
The police chief also stressed the need for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, state governments, and non-state actors.
Why it matters
Security remains a major concern for many Nigerians, with public confidence in law enforcement often under scrutiny.
Mr Disu’s appointment and the strong endorsement from Lagos signals an effort to reset relations between the police and citizens.
His emphasis on partnerships with institutions like the Lagos State Security Trust Fund suggests a broader, multi-stakeholder approach to tackling crime.
Industry and public perspectives
Security analysts say collaboration between police and local stakeholders is critical to improving intelligence gathering and response times.
Civil society groups have also repeatedly called for reforms focused on accountability, transparency, and respect for human rights.
For residents and businesses, improved policing could mean safer communities and a more stable environment for economic activity.
What’s next
The Inspector-General is expected to outline policy priorities in the coming weeks, including operational reforms and nationwide security strategies.
Observers will be watching closely to see how his promises on professionalism and public trust translate into action.

Anambra Govt Pledges Stronger Support for NSCDC to Boost Security
The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), following a high-level meeting between the state command and top government officials.
The assurance came when the NSCDC State Commandant, Maku Olatunde, paid an unscheduled visit to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, in Awka on Friday.
The visit aimed to strengthen cooperation between the agency and the state government amid ongoing efforts to improve security across Anambra.
Commandant Olatunde congratulated the SSG on her appointment, describing it as “a well-deserved elevation that would enhance good governance.”
He also credited the state government’s backing for the command’s progress.
“The Governor’s unwavering support, counsel, and motivation since I assumed office have been instrumental to the milestones achieved by the Command,” he said.
The NSCDC boss reiterated the agency’s readiness to work closely with other security bodies to maintain peace and stability in the state.
Why It Matters
Security remains a major concern for residents and businesses in Anambra, particularly in recent years marked by criminal activities and attacks on public infrastructure.
The NSCDC plays a key role in safeguarding critical national assets, including pipelines, power installations, and public facilities.
Stronger collaboration between the agency and the state government could improve response times, intelligence sharing, and overall public safety.
Call for More Support
During the meeting, Commandant Olatunde appealed for additional operational support from the state government.
He noted that residents recognise the importance of the NSCDC’s work in protecting lives and infrastructure.
“The people of Anambra acknowledge and value the NSCDC’s role in protecting lives and securing critical assets,” he said.
Government Response
In response, Mrs. Nnake assured the command of the government’s readiness to address security concerns promptly.
She acknowledged that insecurity had previously posed serious challenges in the state but said the situation has improved.
“Insecurity was one of the major challenges hitherto in the state, but with the State Government’s support to security agencies, the situation has significantly improved,” she said.
The SSG also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to security under Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
“Security remains a top priority on Mr Governor’s agenda, and the government will continue to work hand in hand with security agencies to safeguard lives and property,” she added.
Industry and Public Perspective
Security analysts say sustained investment in agencies like the NSCDC is critical to protecting infrastructure and supporting economic growth.
Local business owners in Anambra have also called for improved security coordination, noting that stability directly impacts commerce and investor confidence.
What’s Next
The outcome of the meeting could lead to increased funding, logistics support, and joint operations between the NSCDC and other security agencies in the state.
Observers say consistent government backing will be key to sustaining recent gains in security.

He was taken to the Federal Medical Centre Owerri, where he was later pronounced dead.
His remains have been deposited in the hospital mortuary.

Police say the driver, identified as Chisom Ajah, has been taken into custody alongside the vehicle.
Both have been handed over to the State Motor Traffic Department in Owerri for further investigation.
In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, said authorities would “establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident” and ensure justice is served.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, expressed condolences to the officer’s family, colleagues, and the Imo State Police Command.
He said the officer’s “sacrifice will not be in vain,” adding that a thorough investigation had already been initiated.
Why it matters
Road accidents involving security personnel at checkpoints remain a recurring concern in Nigeria.
Experts say poor visibility, reckless driving, and weak enforcement of traffic laws often contribute to such incidents.
Safety advocates are urging stricter compliance with traffic regulations, especially near police duty posts.
Police urge caution among motorists
The police have called on drivers to exercise caution and obey traffic laws, particularly around checkpoints.
They emphasised the need for motorists to maintain safe speeds and remain alert to avoid preventable tragedies.
IGP Disu closes PMF training, stresses professionalism
In a separate development, IGP Disu attended the closing ceremony of the Squadron Commanders’ Training Programme at the Police Mobile Force Training College in Ende-Hills, Nasarawa State.
During the visit, he inspected facilities including the shooting range and simulation grounds, and took part in tactical exercises.
Focus on training and officer welfare
Addressing cadets from the Nigeria Police Academy, the IGP urged them to remain disciplined and committed to professional standards.
He highlighted the importance of human rights compliance, resilience, and operational efficiency.
“The quality of their training will define their effectiveness and conduct in the field,” he said.
Strengthening Nigeria’s tactical policing
Disu also commended the commanders who completed the programme, urging them to apply their training to improve leadership and operational discipline.
He reaffirmed his commitment to improving welfare and equipping officers to respond to evolving security challenges.
