Senator Natasha Accuses Senate President Akpabio of Blocking Her from Leaving Nigeria
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of ordering airport officials to seize her international passport, preventing her from leaving Nigeria.
In a video shared on Facebook, the senator was seen confronting immigration officers at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport, demanding the release of her passport.
“Have I committed any offence? Why are you withholding my passport?” she asked visibly frustrated. “There’s no court order stopping me from traveling.”
“This Must Stop,” Natasha Says in Viral Video
The visibly emotional senator alleged that her passport was withheld on the instructions of the Senate President.
“The officer in charge told us that Senator Godswill Akpabio instructed them to withhold my passport because he claims I smear the country’s image whenever I travel abroad,” Akpoti-Uduaghan said.
She insisted she had not violated any laws or missed any court appearances.
“I am not a flight risk. I have not committed any offence. You have no right to deny me exit and entrance into my country,” she said.
Background: Ongoing Political Tensions
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, has been a vocal critic of Nigeria’s political establishment. She is known for her outspoken comments on corruption and governance.
The senator revealed that President Bola Tinubu had previously directed the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) to withdraw two federal cases against her, describing them as politically motivated.
“The president instructed the AGF to withdraw the cases because he agreed they were politically driven,” she said.
Why It Matters
The confrontation has reignited debates over political interference in law enforcement and freedom of movement in Nigeria.
Legal analysts say if confirmed, the alleged instruction from a sitting Senate President could raise serious constitutional concerns.
Human rights lawyer Femi Adegoke told NigeriaUpdates that such an action would “amount to abuse of power and a violation of Section 41 of the Nigerian Constitution, which guarantees the right to freedom of movement.”
Industry & Public Reactions
On X (formerly Twitter), several Nigerians expressed outrage over the video.
@IjeomaRights wrote:
“This is shameful. No one, not even a Senate President, should have the power to block a citizen’s movement.”
Others called for an official investigation into the senator’s claim, urging the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to issue a statement.
As of press time, neither Akpabio nor the NIS had responded publicly to the allegations.
What’s Next
The senator hinted she might take legal action.
“I think I have to sue you for continuously embarrassing me,” she told officials in the video.
Civil society groups are expected to demand clarification from the Senate leadership and the Ministry of Interior.

Ondo Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa Sacks Aides, Plans 1,000 New Appointments Across Wards
The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has dismissed all political aides with immediate effect, in what officials describe as a move to improve governance and service delivery.
Those affected include Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said the governor appreciated their contributions to the state.
“The Governor thanked them for their contributions to the development of the State thus far and wished them well in their future endeavours.”
Plan to appoint 1,000 new aides
The government also announced plans to appoint about 1,000 new aides drawn from all 203 wards across the state’s 18 local government areas.
Officials say the move is aimed at strengthening coordination and expanding grassroots representation.
The appointments are expected to be rolled out in phases.
Why it matters
The decision signals a significant restructuring within the state’s political system, potentially affecting governance, political loyalty, and service delivery.
By appointing aides from every ward, the administration may be seeking to deepen political inclusion and improve communication between government and local communities.
However, such large-scale appointments could also raise questions about public spending and the efficiency of governance structures.
Industry and public reactions
Political analysts say the move reflects a broader trend among Nigerian state governments to recalibrate administrative structures mid-tenure.
Some observers argue that bringing in new aides could inject fresh ideas into governance.
Others, however, caution that frequent political reshuffles may disrupt continuity and policy implementation.
Residents and stakeholders are expected to watch closely how the appointments impact local governance and development projects.
What’s next
The Ondo State Government has not yet announced a timeline for the appointments.
Attention will now turn to the selection process, with expectations that it reflects fairness, competence, and political balance across the state.

Tinubu at 74: Ajipe Praises Economic Reforms, Youth Empowerment Drive
Chief Alexander Oluremi Ajipe, a member of the University of Ibadan Governing Council and a senatorial aspirant for Ondo North, has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his 74th birthday, praising his economic reforms and youth-focused policies.
In a statement, Ajipe described the president’s leadership as “visionary” and said his policies were beginning to stabilise Nigeria’s economy.
“Your remarkable journey from a pro democracy icon to the architect of the Renewed Hope agenda exemplifies selfless service, unyielding resilience, and visionary leadership,” he said.
Why it matters
President Tinubu’s reforms — including fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification — have been among the most significant economic policy shifts in Nigeria in recent years.
Supporters say they are necessary to fix long-standing structural issues, while critics argue they have contributed to rising living costs.
Ajipe acknowledged the challenges but insisted the measures were laying the groundwork for long-term growth.
“Today marks not just another year in your illustrious life, but a pivotal moment to reflect on the bold fiscal policies and economic reforms including fuel subsidy removal, naira unification, and debt restructuring that are stabilizing our economy, curbing inflation, and fostering sustainable growth despite global headwinds,” he said.
Local impact in Ondo State
Ajipe highlighted federal government interventions in Ondo State, particularly in agriculture and youth development.
He said these programmes were helping to address unemployment and improve livelihoods.
“In Ondo State, we remain profoundly grateful for your administration’s targeted interventions, including agricultural empowerment initiatives and youth skills programs across various agencies that align seamlessly with our local needs,” he said.
Analysts say such initiatives are critical in a country where a large proportion of the population is under 30.
Industry and public perspectives
Economic experts remain divided on the effectiveness of the reforms.
Some argue that removing fuel subsidies has freed up government revenue for development projects, while others say inflationary pressures have offset the benefits for ordinary Nigerians.
Public reaction has also been mixed, with many households facing higher costs of transportation and food.
What’s next
Ajipe expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic direction, saying continued fiscal discipline and diversification would deliver long-term benefits.
“These transformative efforts… promise enduring prosperity, national unity, and robust empowerment for our youth and future generations,” he added.
He also wished the president good health and continued leadership.

APC Convention: Aiyedatiwa Praises Tinubu, Party Leadership for “Peaceful, United” Outcome
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following what he described as a “peaceful and successful” national convention in Abuja.
He said the outcome reflects internal unity within the ruling party and signals stability for the administration.
“A sign of party maturity”
Governor Aiyedatiwa, who led Ondo State delegates to the convention, said the orderly conduct and consensus-based emergence of party leaders demonstrate political maturity.
“I extend warm congratulations to our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our great party, the All Progressives Congress, on the peaceful and successful conclusion of its National Convention,” he said.
“The orderly process, spirit of unity and reaffirmation of shared ideals attest to the maturity of our party and the strength of its internal democracy.”
The APC convention is a key political event that determines the leadership structure of Nigeria’s ruling party, often shaping policy direction and electoral strategy.
New leadership emerges
The governor also congratulated Nentawe Yilwatda, who emerged as the party’s National Chairman, alongside other members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
Their emergence, he noted, was largely uncontested, which party officials say reflects internal consensus.
“I commend the National Working Committee, the Convention Planning Committee, delegates and all stakeholders for their discipline and commitment,” Aiyedatiwa added.
Why it matters
Political analysts say peaceful conventions are critical for party cohesion, especially in a country where internal disputes have previously led to defections and legal battles.
For the APC, maintaining unity is seen as crucial ahead of future elections and for sustaining support for President Tinubu’s policies.
Aiyedatiwa linked the convention outcome to governance, stressing that party unity should translate into delivery.
“As a governing party, moments like these renew our collective responsibility to deliver good governance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.”

Impact on Ondo State
The governor said Ondo State would build on the momentum from the convention by strengthening grassroots mobilisation and development efforts.
“In Ondo State, we remain steadfast in building on this momentum—deepening grassroots mobilisation, expanding development across communities, and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every citizen.”
He also praised delegates from the state for their conduct during the convention.
Industry and public perspective
Political observers note that while consensus leadership can reduce internal friction, it also raises questions about inclusiveness and competitiveness within party structures.
However, supporters argue that unity is essential for policy continuity and governance stability.
What’s next
Attention is expected to shift to how the newly affirmed leadership of the APC will align with government priorities and prepare for upcoming political contests.
For state leaders like Aiyedatiwa, the focus remains on translating party cohesion into local development outcomes.
