Students from the Department of Food Science and Technology at Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, have once again demonstrated academic excellence by emerging as overall winners in a regional quiz competition organised by the Nigerian Association of Food Science and Technology Students (NAFSTS).
The competition, part of the 9th Regional Food Science and Technology (ReFoST) Conference hosted by the Western Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST), took place at the Ikole-Ekiti Campus of the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE). It featured 20 institutions, including universities and polytechnics from across the region.
OAUSTECH’s representatives—Omotola Ibukun Precious (500 Level) and Benjamin Nathaniel Boluwatife (400 Level)—excelled in the preliminary rounds. In the final stage, Omotola was joined by Ashiru Mordiyyah Ayomide (300 Level). The duo delivered a flawless performance, answering all questions correctly.
Their impressive performance was met with enthusiastic support from their colleagues, including Owofolaju Oluwaseun Taiwo, National President of NAFSTS, and Omogbeja Jessica Omoye, President of the OAUSTECH Chapter.
Speaking on the victory, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, Vice-Chancellor of OAUSTECH, praised the students’ commitment:
“This victory is a testament to the academic excellence and commitment of our students and staff in the Department of Food Science and Technology. We are proud of our students’ achievement and commend their dedication to food science and technology.”
Also commending the team, Prof. Funmilola Agbebi, Dean of the School of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, stated:
“This win demonstrates the quality of training and mentorship our students receive. We are committed to nurturing talent and promoting academic excellence in our students.”
Dr. Clement Ogidi, Coordinator of the Department of Food Science and Technology, emphasized the department’s holistic approach:
“The success of our students is a reflection of the department’s focus on practical and theoretical knowledge in food science and technology. We will continue to support and encourage our students to excel in their academic and professional pursuits.”
This marks a consecutive victory for OAUSTECH, which also claimed the title last year at LAUTECH, Ogbomoso. The university’s continued dominance underscores its leadership in food science education and innovation.
