The operation led officers to a hideout in the Mojoyin Molade area of Iwo Road, Ibadan, where two suspects were arrested at about 10:30 p.m. on 11 July.

The child was rescued unhurt minutes later and immediately taken for medical attention, police said.

Ransom payment uncovered

Preliminary investigations identified the suspects as Adegboye Seyi Sunday, 37, and Adegboye Elijah Adefemi, 25.

Police alleged that the pair entered the family’s home unlawfully, abducted the child and demanded a ransom of ₦10 million for her release.

Investigators also said the suspects had already received ₦1 million in ransom from the victim’s family during negotiations in Gbongan, Osun State, on 8 July.

The Command said efforts are continuing to recover the money and arrest other suspected members of the kidnapping network.

Acting on the tip-off, operatives from the Monitoring Unit intercepted the suspects on 14 July in the Gambari, Orile-Igbon area of Oyo State before the railway materials could allegedly be transported to Lagos.

Those arrested were identified as Waheed Ayinde, 54, Muhammed Sani, 27, and Hassan Ibrahim, 22.

Police also recovered a HOWO truck bearing registration number CAL 972 XA from Cross River State, which investigators believe was used to transport the stolen materials.

According to preliminary investigations, the railway tracks were allegedly removed from Niger State and transported into Oyo State as part of a wider criminal operation.

Investigators believe Lagos was the intended destination.
