Oyo Police Recover Firearm, Vandalised Cables and Suspected Stolen Property, Arrest Three
The Oyo State Police Command says it has recovered a locally fabricated firearm, vandalised cables and other suspected stolen items while arresting three suspects in Oyo town as part of ongoing efforts to tackle crime in the state.
According to the police, the operation began after a resident reported the theft of a welding machine, leading investigators to a scrap metal shop where the stolen property was allegedly traced.
The police said the discovery led to the recovery of additional items suspected to be linked to criminal activities, including cables reportedly belonging to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Oyo and vehicle air-conditioning components believed to have been stolen.
How the arrests happened
The Command said the case started when Akanni Hamsat, a 42-year-old resident of Bara Apaara in Oyo, reported that his welding machine had been stolen from his shop.
According to the police, the complainant carried out his own inquiries and traced the machine to a scrap shop within the community.
Acting on the information, officers attached to the Durbar Division reportedly raided the premises and arrested the scrap shop owner, identified as Suhaib Abdulwahab, 30, of Akunlemu Area, Oyo.
A search of the premises allegedly uncovered a locally fabricated pistol, armour cables said to belong to NTA Oyo, and several vehicle air-conditioning components suspected to be stolen.
Two more suspects arrested
Police investigators said further inquiries led to the arrest of two additional suspects, Kabiril Mustapha and Abdullah Abdullah, both aged 25 and residents of Akunlemu Area.
Authorities believe the pair may be connected to the recovered items and ongoing investigations.
The recovered exhibits have been taken into police custody while detectives work to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement and identify any other possible accomplices.
Police said the suspects are cooperating with investigators.
Why it matters
Cable vandalism and property theft remain persistent concerns in many Nigerian communities, often disrupting public services, increasing repair costs and affecting businesses.
Security analysts say the recovery of infrastructure materials and suspected stolen goods could help reduce losses suffered by public institutions and private property owners if prosecutions are successfully pursued.
The seizure of a firearm during the operation also raises concerns about the potential use of illegal weapons in property-related crimes.
Police appeal for public support
In a statement, the Oyo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
“The Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and urges members of the public to continue supporting the Police by providing timely, credible, and actionable information that will assist in preventing and combating crime across the state.”
The Command also reassured residents that security agencies remain vigilant.
“Members of the public are hereby reassured that there is no cause for alarm, as the Command remains vigilant and is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of residents.”
What happens next?
Police investigators are expected to continue examining the origin of the recovered items, establish ownership of the suspected stolen property and determine whether additional arrests will be made.
The suspects may face formal charges if sufficient evidence is established following the conclusion of investigations.

Delta Police Arrest Five Suspects, Recover Gun and 10 Bags of Suspected Cannabis
The Delta State Police Command says it has arrested five suspects and recovered a locally made revolver pistol alongside 10 bags of substances suspected to be cannabis during separate security operations across the state.
Police authorities described the arrests as part of ongoing efforts to tackle violent crime, illegal firearms possession, and drug trafficking in Delta State.
According to the command, three suspects were arrested during a patrol operation in Asaba, while two others were intercepted with suspected illicit drugs along the busy Onitsha-Benin Expressway.
Gun Recovered During Asaba Patrol
The police said the first operation took place in the early hours of 30 May when officers attached to the Asaba Area Command surveillance team were conducting a routine patrol behind the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) premises in Asaba.
The suspects were identified as Musa Sule, 22, Moses Sunday, 26, and Osama Ibrahim, 25.
Officers reportedly stopped and searched the trio after becoming suspicious of their activities.
According to the police, a locally made revolver pistol and other dangerous weapons were recovered during the search.
The suspects were arrested at the scene, while the recovered items were taken into police custody for further investigation.
Suspected Drug Traffickers Intercepted on Highway
In a separate operation carried out on 29 May, operatives of the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU) intercepted an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz station wagon along the Onitsha-Benin Expressway.
The vehicle, bearing registration number BEN 982 TE, was occupied by Hilary Aloma and Oki Joseph, also known as “Big Joe”.
Police said a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 10 bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp concealed inside the car.
Investigators believe the suspected drugs were being transported from Edo State to Awka in Anambra State before the vehicle was stopped.
The suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue.
Why It Matters
Security experts have repeatedly warned that the proliferation of illegal firearms and the movement of illicit drugs across major transport corridors remain significant security challenges in southern Nigeria.
Law enforcement agencies argue that such operations help disrupt criminal networks, reduce the circulation of weapons, and limit the availability of illegal drugs that can fuel organised crime and violence.
The Onitsha-Benin Expressway is one of Nigeria’s busiest transport routes, linking commercial hubs across the South-East and South-South regions, making it a key focus area for security agencies.
Police Commend Operatives
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised officers involved in the operations.
He said: “I commend the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism, and commitment to duty.”
The commissioner also issued a warning to individuals involved in criminal activities.
According to him, those engaged in unlawful possession of firearms, drug trafficking, cult-related activities, and other criminal acts should desist or face prosecution.
What Happens Next?
Police investigators are expected to conduct forensic examinations and further intelligence gathering to determine the origin of the recovered firearm and identify possible links to wider criminal networks.
Authorities are also working to establish whether additional suspects were involved in the transportation and distribution of the suspected cannabis recovered during the highway operation.
No court charges had been announced as of the time of publication.

Ogun Police Arrest Security Guard Over Alleged Theft of Company Motor Spare Parts
Police in Ogun State have arrested a 32-year-old security guard, identified as Friday Ayuba, over the alleged theft of motor spare parts belonging to his employer in Owode-Egba.
The arrest was made by operatives of the Owode-Egba Division of the Ogun State Police Command following a report from the management of the affected company.
According to police authorities, the suspect was intercepted by officers attached to the Quick Response Squad (QRS) at the Sagamu Interchange area along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway while allegedly attempting to move company property without authorization.
The incident highlights growing concerns among businesses about internal theft and the need for stronger workplace security measures.
How the Suspect Was Arrested
In a statement issued on Saturday, Ogun State Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the company manager reported the matter to the police on 30 May 2026 at about 6:00 pm.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who worked as a security guard for the company, was allegedly found with several motor spare parts believed to have been removed from the firm’s premises.
Police said the recovered items included:
– Four air controls
– Two air boosters
– Two engine seats
– Two fuel pumps
Authorities confirmed that all the items were identified as company property.
Investigators subsequently visited the scene to document evidence and continue inquiries into the incident.
Suspect Allegedly Confessed
According to the police statement, the suspect reportedly admitted to stealing the items during interrogation.
He remains in police custody while investigations continue.
“The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue. He will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement said.
Why the Case Matters
Employee theft remains a significant challenge for businesses across Nigeria, particularly in sectors that rely on expensive machinery, spare parts and industrial equipment.
Security experts say insider threats can be difficult to detect because employees often have authorized access to company facilities and assets.
Business owners have increasingly invested in surveillance systems, inventory tracking technologies and staff background checks to reduce losses linked to workplace theft.
Analysts note that successful recovery of stolen property can help reduce financial losses and discourage similar crimes.
Police Commissioner Commends Swift Response
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the company’s management and police officers involved in the operation.
“The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the vigilance of the company management and the swift, coordinated response of the Quick Response Squad and officers of Owode-Egba Division, which led to the successful recovery of the stolen property and the apprehension of the suspect.”
The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting businesses, residents and critical assets across the state.
He also urged employers and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
Public Safety Advisory
The Ogun State Police Command encouraged residents to report suspicious movements and criminal activities through its emergency channels.
Authorities said intelligence-sharing between businesses, communities and security agencies remains critical to preventing crime and safeguarding economic activities.
What Happens Next?
Police say investigations are ongoing to determine whether additional individuals may have been involved in the alleged theft.
The suspect is expected to be charged in court after investigators conclude their inquiries.
For businesses operating in Ogun State, the case serves as a reminder of the importance of internal controls, employee monitoring and collaboration with law enforcement agencies.

Ogun Police Arrest Two Suspected ‘One-Chance’ Robbers in Abeokuta, Recover Stolen iPhone 12 Pro
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected “one-chance” robbers accused of attacking commuters and stealing mobile phones in the Obantoko area of Abeokuta.
Police said the suspects were arrested after a distress call from residents on Wednesday evening following an alleged robbery involving a woman and her two sisters.
According to the police, the victims boarded a Nissan Micra taxi from the Somorin area while travelling to NNPC Kuto. However, investigators said the occupants of the vehicle allegedly changed route around the OLG Somorin axis, became violent, and dispossessed the passengers of their belongings before forcing them out of the car.
Shortly after the incident, one of the victims discovered that her iPhone 12 Pro had been stolen and raised an alarm, prompting a rapid response from detectives attached to the Obantoko Division.
Police said officers, working alongside residents in the area, arrested two suspects identified as Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak, while another vehicle linked to the operation reportedly escaped.
The Ogun State Police Command said officers also prevented an attempted mob attack on the suspects by angry residents gathered at the scene.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to participating in the robbery, police said.
Authorities added that the stolen iPhone 12 Pro and several other mobile phones suspected to have been stolen from previous victims were recovered from the suspects.
The recovered iPhone 12 Pro has since been returned to its owner on bond, while the suspects remain in custody pending further investigation and prosecution.
Why the Case Matters
“One-chance” robberies — crimes in which unsuspecting passengers board vehicles operated by criminals posing as commercial transport operators — remain a major security concern in several Nigerian cities.
The incidents often involve theft, assault, and in some cases kidnapping, leaving commuters increasingly fearful of boarding public vehicles, especially during evening hours.
Security analysts say rapid police response and community cooperation are becoming increasingly important in tackling such crimes.
Police Commend Community Cooperation
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised officers of the Obantoko Division and residents for their swift action.
“The swift response, professionalism, and synergy between officers of Obantoko Division and members of the public culminated in the successful arrest of the suspects and recovery of stolen property,” the command said in a statement.
The police commissioner also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention across the state.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines.
Growing Concern Over “One-Chance” Crimes
Cases involving fake commercial vehicles have continued to raise public concern across Nigeria, particularly in urban centres where commuters rely heavily on taxis and ride-sharing options.
Public safety advocates say passengers should remain cautious by avoiding isolated vehicles, sharing trip details with relatives, and using trusted transportation services where possible.
What Happens Next
Police said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other suspects connected to the robbery operation, including those who escaped from the scene.
The arrested suspects are expected to face prosecution after investigations are completed.
