UEC Nigeria Leader Urges Tinubu to Address Insecurity, Fuel Prices and Power Crisis

Published

on

The Chairman of Conference of the United Evangelical Church Nigeria, Rev. Daniel Anjorin, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other government leaders to take “urgent, decisive and sustained actions” to address Nigeria’s worsening security and economic challenges.

Rev. Anjorin made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the end of a three-day pastoral visit to the Lagos Township Superintendency of the church in Surulere on Sunday.

The cleric said the safety and welfare of Nigerians should remain a top priority as the country continues to face rising hardship ahead of another election cycle.

He warned that governments at all levels could not afford to ignore the growing struggles faced by citizens.

Concerns Over Security and Cost of Living

Rev. Anjorin specifically urged President Tinubu to address the country’s deteriorating security situation, rising fuel costs and inadequate electricity supply.

According to him, policies introduced by government must directly improve the lives and welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

“Nigerians should not lose hope, they should remain steadfast, prayerfully and have confidence in God who is able to do all things,” he said.

He added:

“Government at all levels on the other hand should re-double efforts for stronger national response to curb the growing wave of insecurity and hardship faced by Nigerians.”

Nigeria has continued to grapple with high inflation, rising transportation costs, persistent electricity shortages and security concerns in several regions, issues that have intensified public debate over economic reforms and governance.

Why It Matters

The comments reflect growing concerns among religious leaders, civil society groups and citizens over the impact of economic reforms on daily life.

Fuel price increases following subsidy reforms have pushed transportation and food costs higher across the country, while unreliable electricity supply continues to affect households and businesses.

Security also remains a major issue, with many Nigerians expressing concerns over kidnappings, violent attacks and community safety in parts of the country.

Analysts say religious organisations remain influential voices in Nigeria’s public discourse because of their close connection to communities affected by economic hardship.

Call for Unity and National Development

Rev. Anjorin also called on Nigerians to avoid tribalism, nepotism and divisive sentiments, urging citizens to focus on building a peaceful and prosperous nation.

The church leader reaffirmed the support of UEC members for governments at all levels and pledged continued prayers for national development.

He expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome its current socio-economic challenges.

“Exceeding, unspeakable great joy and divine help are ahead and sufficient to lead the nation through its socio-economic challenges,” he said.

Church Visit and Leadership Support

Speaking about his visit to the Lagos Township Superintendency, Rev. Anjorin said the trip was aimed at strengthening the church spiritually and administratively.

He commended church leaders and members in Surulere for what he described as their “show of love and understanding” and the spiritual revival witnessed during the visit.

Earlier, the Superintendent of the Lagos Township Superintendency, Rev. Idorenyin James, congratulated Rev. Anjorin on his emergence as Chairman of Conference of the church.

Rev. James described the appointment as “divinely orchestrated” and pledged the support of the superintendency to his administration.

RCCG Prays for Media Practitioners, Urges Greater Support as Adeboye Preaches “Created for Greater Impact”

Worshippers gathered during RCCG May 2026 Thanksgiving Service

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) dedicated its May 2026 Thanksgiving Service to praying for media practitioners, highlighting their critical role in society while calling for improved welfare, protection, and professional standards.

Why It Matters

The focus on media professionals comes amid growing concerns over safety risks, low remuneration, and the evolving demands of journalism in Nigeria and globally.

Church leaders say supporting the media is essential for democracy, public awareness, and national development.

Adeboye’s Message: “Created for Greater Impact”

Delivering a sermon titled “Created for Greater Impact”, Pastor Enoch Adeboye emphasised purpose, timing, and divine direction, drawing from the biblical text in Jeremiah 1:4–5.

He said:

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee… and I ordained thee.”

Adeboye described life as a “divine script,” where every individual has a role to play.

“Everybody who has come to this world plays a part… You are an actor or actress, playing a part in a play written before you were born,” he said.

He urged worshippers to seek clarity on their purpose and align with God’s timing, warning that destiny could be altered by personal choices.

Special Focus: Prayer for Media Practitioners

A key highlight of the service was a dedicated prayer session for professionals in print, broadcast, and digital media.

Adeboye prayed:

“Help them. Support them; strengthen them; guide them; protect them… In every area of their lives, show them favour.”

The church acknowledged the pressures faced by journalists, including hazardous assignments and emotional strain on families.RCCG General Overseer delivering sermon on purpose and impact

Church Leaders Call for Better Treatment of Journalists

Speaking after the service, Pastor Oladele Abiodun Balogun, Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration, explained why the church chose to focus on media practitioners.

He said the media plays a vital role in informing and shaping society through “information, analysis, and interpretation.”

Balogun added that while journalists are doing commendable work, there is room for improvement.

“They can continue improving their objectivity and information delivery, as the world keeps changing and requires adaptation,” he said.

He also raised concerns about poor welfare conditions in the industry.

“Employers should provide better remuneration… society should encourage and appreciate media workers more,” he said.

Industry and Public Perspectives

Media analysts say the church’s intervention reflects growing recognition of journalism’s role in governance and accountability.

Some journalists have long complained about low pay, job insecurity, and threats to press freedom.

Public reactions on social media suggest many Nigerians agree that journalists deserve greater protection and respect.

The Risks Behind the Headlines

The RCCG noted that media work often involves dangerous assignments, including conflict reporting and investigative journalism.

These risks, church leaders said, not only affect practitioners but also their families.

What’s Next

The church pledged continued support for media professionals through prayers and engagement initiatives.

It also encouraged stakeholders including government and private organisations to prioritise the welfare and safety of journalists.

Adeboye concluded with a call for personal reflection:

“God created you for a purpose… Help me to achieve my purpose.”
